In an Australian first, leading online wine retailer Vinomofo has partnered with animal welfare charity PetRescue to launch the Workplace Foster Care Program. The program matches homeless dogs and cats with a workplace foster family who help the furry friend find a loving home.

According to the PetRescue website, a sobering 56% of cats and 25% of dogs entering pounds are needlessly put down because they are not placed in homes. The Workplace Foster Care Program aims to challenge that statistic and boost adoption rates by providing workplaces with the opportunity to help adopt a pet. Once a pet is fostered into a workplace, through personal contacts and social networks, staff can work together to help find their office pet a permanent home.

As the first company to take part in the program, South Australian born company, Vinomofo is thrilled to be involved. The Vinomofo team already loves the canine companionship from current office rescue-dog, Keita and would like to see their lead followed by other Australian businesses.

Co-founder and joint CEO, Andre Eikmeier said PetRescue aligns wholly with the Vinomofo company value “Do Good”.

“For us it wasn’t just about donating money to a charity, we wanted to support a cause that we believed in and that we could get heavily involved in. We found out about PetRescue and knew that it was the charity we wanted to support, how much more involved can you get than working alongside a canine friend in your office?” said Andre.

PetRescue supports more than 800 rescue groups, shelters and pounds nationwide, saving thousands of rescue pets every month. PetRescue Director, Vickie Davy said that they were looking to partner with a company that aligned with their own values and culture.

“Vinomofo has an awesome company culture and a strong social network of people who love what they do, so they were the perfect partner to launch the program. Our aim is to show the community how wonderful each foster pet is and to educate them about the positive impacts that the Workplace Foster Care Program can have for both pet and person,” said Vickie.

Justin Dry, Joint CEO and Co-founder of Vinomofo also said, “The Workplace Foster Care Program is such a great initiative, as not only does it help homeless cats and dogs find a forever home, but it also creates a really great environment for the workplace. Everyone at Vinomofo loves our foster dog JD, he provides a lot of love and laughs. I strongly urge Adelaide businesses to jump on board this great cause! Make sure you visit the PetRescue website to find out how you can become one of the first South Australian businesses to get involved.”

Vinomofo will be tracking the journey of each foster pet they take through photos and updates across its social channels. Check out the hashtag #rehomeamofo or Twitter and Instagram handle @rehomeamofo.
