03C63270The Royal Adelaide Show, on September 5 to 14, is looking for volunteers to help with this year’s event.

Anyone aged 18 and over can apply, with available positions including attendants, administration assistants, runners, information booth and Yellow Brick Road assistants, and flying squad members, who cover breaks and shifts.

Royal Adelaide Show general manager Michelle Hocking said the volunteer positions were ideal for anyone who loves the Show and who enjoys helping others.

“In the past we’ve had everyone from students to retirees in volunteer positions, and we encourage anyone who is interested to attend one of our information sessions in May,” she said.

“The 2014 Show has been extended from nine to ten days to celebrate the RA&HS’s 175th anniversary, so we will be looking for an even bigger volunteer team than in previous years.”

To be eligible, volunteers must be able to complete a minimum of six days over the ten days of the Show, attend an orientation/induction session including a familiarisation tour of the Showground, and complete a Work Health & Safety induction.

“We also ask that prospective volunteers provide the contact details of a professional referee, and to undergo background checks,” says Michelle.

“Most of the roles are customer service-based so volunteers need to be friendly, approachable, enthusiastic and reliable, with a good sense of humour.”

In return, volunteers receive a ten-day Show pass, allowing entry for themselves every day of the Show; one single entry pass for a friend or family member; an official volunteer uniform, including two polo shirts, a hat and lanyard; one meal voucher for each shift completed; exclusive access to the exhibitor/volunteer lounge and a commemorative pin badge.

Interested persons should attend a Royal Show Event Volunteer information session on Friday, May 9 (3pm-4pm) or Saturday, May 10 (10am-11am), where prospective volunteers will have the opportunity to ask questions and to meet existing event volunteers. To register your attendance, call Lucy Camp on (08) 8210 5227 or email [email protected]

Applications can be made up to June 30 and if selected applicants will be invited to attend a brief interview and uniform fitting on July 3 or 4. Finally, successful applicants must attend an induction session on Friday, August 29.
