As concern rises over a large community outbreak of COVID-19 in Adelaide overnight, Western Australia, Tasmania and The Northern Territories have announced strong travel restrictions for people arriving from South Australia.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, NT’s Chief Minister Michael Gunner announced new travel restrictions to the state saying, “people who arrive here [in NT] from South Australia this morning will be directed to supervised quarantine or given the option to return to South Australia.”
He continued, “people who intend to travel here later today from South Australia will need to make a decision now – to stay there, or if they come here, to enter supervised quarantine.”
Those who choose to enter NT today or tomorrow from SA will not be required to pay the $2500 managed isolation fee, due to the short notice of this border closure.
Speaking from Tasmania, the state Premier Peter Gutwein said “with the outbreak escalating in Adelaide, we are taking immediate cautionary action this morning.”
Anyone arriving into Tasmania who has spent time in SA since November 8 will be required to self isolate, either in a hotel room or, if appropriate, at the address they intend to stay in while in the state.
Just 48 hours after travel restrictions from SA to WA were lifted, as of today, all those arriving to the state will be required to be tested for COVID-19. They must also self isolate either at a residence or in other suitable accomodation for 14 days.
The Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, has also taken to Twitter saying “anyone about to leave Adelaide should be advised we are assessing the COVID-19 outbreak and may place restrictions on travel, including mandatory quarantine on arrivals. More details will be announced shortly.”
Further details will be provided shortly.
