The Copper Coast is preparing to roll out the welcome mat for the first time in a long time with the arrival of luxury cruise ship, Seabourn Quest. Set to make waves in Wallaroo come March 2027, the visit will mark the long-awaited return of cruise tourism to the region. This is a huge milestone for the community after an eight-year pause since the ships docked in 2019.

Flinders Ports and the South Australian Tourism Commission have confirmed the booking for the Seabourn Quest, which is a part of the Carnival Corporation’s Seabourn brand. The cruise is known for its luxurious service and worldly itineraries and is expected to bring approximately 458 guests and 335 crew members. Stopping at Wallaroo, the cruise is also scheduled to visit other South Australian spots, including Adelaide, Kangaroo Island, and Port Lincoln.

Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison shared, “Wallaroo is an ideal destination for cruise, as the seaside paradise offers the best of South Australia in one place with stunning scenery, immersive wildlife experiences, and welcoming hospitality.

“We are working to expand the number of South Australian destinations for a wide range of cruise lines across the world – just like the luxury Seabourn Quest – to bring dollars into the local economy and showcase why our State is a destination worth returning to.”

The Seabourn brand attracts tourists who tend to spend generously during their visits. Local retailers, hospitality entities, and tourism operators are likely to see considerable benefits from the influx of these high-income tourists.

Mayor Roslyn Talbot said, “This is fantastic news for the Copper Coast. The arrival of Seabourn Quest will bring a significant influx of visitors, boosting local businesses, creating opportunities, and showcasing our beautiful region to an international audience. Just as with previous visits, Council anticipate a substantial positive impact on our local economy.”

The Copper Coast Council will cooperate with stakeholders to prepare a welcome for the passengers. In previous years, the council organised volunteer programs, markets, shuttle services, and various bookable experiences to highlight the region’s unique attractions, rich history, and landscapes. Specific details of the planned activities for 2027 will be announced later in the year as they are confirmed.

While waiting in anticipation, the Council has issued a call to action for local businesses. They are advised to ensure they have adequate stock, staff, and promotional materials ready for the expected surge in visitors. This anticipated boost is also expected to draw significant media attention, which could further promote the Copper Coast as a premier travel destination.

With these preparations in motion, the Seabourn Quest’s visit offers a promising start to the reinvigoration of cruise ship tourism in the region, alongside considerable economic benefits and opportunities for local establishments.
