Regular hand (or paw) washing is something we’ve all got used to during COVID-19 times including Adelaide Zoo’s Giant Panda, Wang Wang.
Keeper Laura captured this vision (on her phone) of the gorgeous male having a lovely bubble bath in front of his adoring public.
Remembering good hygiene, Wang Wang is seen making sure his paws are clean as he splashes around in the bubbles. At one point, he gets so splash-happy that the windows to his day room get a good old wash too!
Regular enrichment ensures the pandas are stimulated and brings out behaviours that are typical to their species. Although Giant Pandas don’t take bubble baths in the wild, they do walk and wash in streams.
Wang Wang and Fu Ni play an important role in an international Giant Panda research, conservation and breeding program designed to preserve the vulnerable species.
Adelaide Zoo’s Panda and Friends experience is recommencing (after being on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions). You can find out more here.
