Being able to defend yourself is an important skill to have, especially in today’s world. Why not try learning the skills you need in a fun and safe environment at a fun Self Defence and Personal Safety Workshop for Women.
Group fitness, personal training and Self Defence gym 2m2 Fitness is holding a 5-hour workshop on Sunday 28th of May (which includes a light lunch). It’s a great opportunity to learn about personal safety, coordination, self control, problem solving and focus in a safe, fun, supportive and relaxed environment.
While the workshop is for women, teenagers are also highly encouraged to attend and it’s a great opportunity to do something fun as a family.
“Learning how to defend yourself in real life situations is really important as you’ll never know when you’ll need those skills. As a by-product, you also get the confidence to look after yourself as well as your health, fitness and flexibility improvements which are an added bonus,” owner and instructor at 2m2 Matthew Osborne says.
During the class you talk about assaults and the laws around defending yourself, personal space and personal safety, as well as learning the fun stuff like how to punch and kick effectively, effective self defence techniques and how to use your best assets, your knees and elbows.
“We cover everything from chatting about situational awareness and personal safety (like not spending all your time looking at your phone and ignoring who’s around, who’s watching you, or where your nearest exits are in case of an emergency) and then moving into skills like balance, stances and more complicated scenarios and techniques,” Matthew says.
“A lot of the techniques we discuss are perfect for women, as they are designed for a smaller person being able to defend themselves against someone who is bigger or stronger. A lot of what you’ll learn is really practical and extremely effective.”
Matthew has a 25-year background in martial arts and has worked in law enforcement previously, so there’s knowledge backing his expertise. It’s also that expertise that makes 2m2 such a fantastic location to learn a diverse and energetic range of classes focussing on cardio, HIIT, strength and conditioning.

You don’t need to be fit to come along, we cater for all ages and fitness levels, from people who have never been in a gym or hit a punching bag before to those who are more experienced.”
