The picturesque backdrop of a vast field of flowers for your spring post comes at a cost that may be surprising for some. Posing in the bright yellow Canola fields may look candid but it’s in fact harming farmer’s properties.

Whether you’re into cottage core, enjoy driving the countryside roads to Clare Valley or the highway down to Tanunda you have probably seen the gorgeous yellow flowered fields or even taken a photo by them.

Most Instagrammers and influencers aren’t aware of the dangerous repercussions of their innocent stroll into the fields of canola. Farmers are desperately asking people not enter the crops due to the harmful biosecurity risks and contamination of the plant.

Canola crops are essential to the state’s food sources and largely exported overseas to be used in biofuels. But unknowing visitors jumping fences and hopping trying to take a harmless selfie are ruining the plant at its vital source.

Fields are at risk of contamination from a number of things like transmission of diseases through soil, FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease), exposing yourself to chemical sprays, hidden snakes, trampling and flattening the plants or people travelling without quarantine causing the health of the crops to severely suffer.

Despite the alarming concerns during the spring season farmers are more than happy for visitors for pose for their photos by the crops and capture memories. Yet there’s certain necessary precautions that sightseers need to follow in order to adhere to the farmers secure plan against contamination of the Canola fields.

Don’t go jumping fences and walking deep into the fields; it’s trespassing and essentially jumping into someone’s backyard unannounced and taking photos.

When driving, be wary of where you park you car and be sure that your vehicle is secure and safely off the main roads away from oncoming on traffic.

Take the photos from the outside along the fence line of the Canola fields and you’ll still be able to capture the beautiful sea of yellow flowers.

As the warmer seasons are upon us, it’s a chance to wander down to some vineyards or wineries and stopover at the Canola fields to gaze and photograph something truly vast and stunning pastures of yellow blooms.
