Waterfront restaurant Secrets by the Sea to host 5-course degustation dinner this July

Secrets by the Sea, the renowned seafood and grill restaurant in Henley Beach, is set to host a degustation dinner with The Lane Vineyard this July.

Secrets by the Sea, the renowned seafood and grill restaurant nestled on the stunning seafront near Henley Square, is set to host an extraordinary gastronomic event this July.

The 5-course degustation dinner, featuring a carefully curated menu and exquisite wine pairings from The Lane Vineyard, will be an unforgettable evening of flavours and sensations.

Owned by local resident Robert Leopardi, Secrets by the Sea is a realisation of his lifelong dream to bring a fresh seafood dining experience to the community. Growing up in Henley Beach and witnessing its transformation into a vibrant precinct, Leopardi saw the need for a local seafood restaurant, combining his passion as a fisherman with his love for the sea.

“This is about our 6th degustation dinner at Secrets by the Sea, and they book out every time. It’s a signature night for us with a lot of regulars and new people booking as well,” Robert says.

“People get to meet each other and the wine makers talk about their wines – they explain how they are made and what makes the flavours perfect for accompanying the dishes.”

The degustation dinner, to be held on July 5 at 7 pm, has been thoughtfully crafted to showcase the finest seafood and complemented by the exceptional wines.

“After we curate the menu, we sat down with the winemakers at The Lane Vineyard who match up the wines perfectly with all of the dishes. Together we marry up the offering,” Robert says.

The journey begins with a tantalising first course featuring kilpatrick grilled oysters, topped with bacon, tangy Worcestershire, and Tabasco sauce. Accompanied by a natural oysters infused with chilli lime dressing.

“We use standard oysters which are the big ones, so people love them and it’s why we sell so many. People know we do good oysters, it’s why they come back,” Robert says.

The oysters will be paired with with the Lane Lois Blanc de Blanc which is a refreshing sparkling wine from the Adelaide Hills with subtle citrus, wildflower, and crunchy apple notes, balanced by fine bread and crisp acidity.

The second course presents chargrilled Spencer Golf Prawns served with spice rice and herb salad, expertly paired with the 2023 Lane Pinot Gris. Tantalise your taste buds further with the third course featuring tender salt and pepper calamari resting on a bed of fresh salad, accompanied by a secrets sauce. The Lane Chardonnay perfectly complements this dish, boasting clean, crisp freshness with aromas of orange blossom, citrus zest, and nougat.

The fourth course is a premium scotch fillet served with creamy mashed potatoes and a red wine reduction. This exquisite dish finds its match in the 2021 Lane Shiraz, a classic cool-climate Shiraz co-fermented with a touch of viognier.

For the grand finale, the chefs freshly made chocolate brownie with chocolate fudge sauce and served with cream tops it all off. This dish is paired with the 2021 The Lane LDR which has aromas of rich plum, cherry and dry herbs to match the sweet taste.

The Lane Vineyard, situated atop the rolling hills adjacent to the Onkaparinga Valley, holds a pristine piece of Adelaide Hills terroir.
