The team from the Watervale Hotel is proud to have claimed three awards in this year’s SA Australian Hotel Association Awards.  The hotel’s beer garden won Best Outdoor Area in a Country Pub in SA, while the restaurant was awarded Best Restaurant in a SA Country Hotel for the third consecutive year.

Most notably, the hotel won the W.T. Spurr AO Award for Tourism and Regional Promotion, for its work on boosting tourism in the Clare Valley region. The award is named in honour of the remarkable South Australian, William (Bill) Spurr AO, who passed away in July of this year.

Mr Spurr served as the South Australian Tourism Commission Chief Executive from 1998 to 2007, and has been credited for “putting South Australia on the map” for interstate and international travellers.

“The Watervale Hotel feels honoured to have been announced the inaugural winner of the Bill Spurr Award for Tourism and Regional Promotion at the 2022 AHA SA awards,” says Watervale owner & sommelier, Warrick Duthy.

“Bill was an AHA CEO as part of a long and distinguished career in tourism and hospitality before his untimely passing earlier this year.

“This award recognised the role the Watervale Hotel plays to promote the Clare Valley as a tourism destination, and in particular to educate guests on the diversity and virtues of Clare Valley wines.”

The Australian Hotels Association previously recognised the Watervale Hotel in 2021, where they won the Best Environmental and Energy Efficiency Practice in the National Awards for Excellence.

Alongside Watervale’s latest AHA accolades, the renowned hotel has also been recently recognised at the 2022 SA Restaurant and Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence. At the HOSTPLUS Awards, the Watervale Hotel also secured the award for Best Restaurant in a Pub/Club, and Nicola Palmer, executive chef of the hotel, won Chef of the Year.

To top it all off (yes, there’s more!), The Watervale Hotel also won two awards at this month’s 2022 South Australian Tourism Awards. The venue was awarded “Best Tourism Restaurant” as well as “Excellence in Food Tourism” for its Six Senses Penobscot Farm Tour and six course Watervale Hotel Degustation dinner. Incredibly impressive!

South Australia’s AHA is nationally recognised as promoting the pursuit of excellence across hundreds of SA hotels to benefit the community and tourists. Consisting of a professional team of experts, the AHA works as an essential part of SA’s hospitality and tourism industry.
