Watsacowie Brewing Co bringing paddock-to-pint Yorke Peninsula Beer to the City

Yorke Peninsula microbrewery, Watsacowie is bringing 100% locally produced Farmer’s Gold beer to the Adelaide Beer & Barbecue Festival.

Watsacowie Brewing Co has become an institution for locals and tourists exploring the National Parks and stunning beaches on the Yorke Peninsula.

But for those who haven’t done the leisurely drive to the rustic Minlaton taphouse, the microbrewery is bringing some of its Farmers Gold to the city, serving up paddock to pint beers, at Adelaide Beer and BBQ festival (ABBF) from July 14 to 16.

The team at Watsacowie will be among 70 South Aussie beer-makers in the Brewer line-up at the Adelaide Showgrounds for this year’s festival, which is set to be the biggest, baddest, fattest AND loudest beer festival south of the equator.

Pouring more than pints, the family-owned and run brewery pours passion into each beer they produce and for the past two years, have collaborated with local farmers to produce an ‘easy drinking’ drop they call Farmer’s Gold.

This year’s release of Farmer’s Gold, which gives a nod to the barley growing region, was sown, grown and harvested on Springvale Farm at Minlaton, and microbrewed by Watsacowie, to produce a beer which is 100 per cent locally produced.

As well as Farmer’s Gold, the Brewcrew at Watsacowie have put together some epic new flavourful brews which will be on tap at the ABBF.

“A huge 8 per cent quandong brew, a New Zealand hopped hazy IPA, a sensationally strong Scottish Ale and an ultra dark Wombat themed brew will be among the brews on tap at the beer fest,” head brewer, Drew Coleman said.

And that’s not all the country coastline is serving up to the City. Yorke Peninsula band, Shadow Monarchy – regular rockers at Watsacowie, have also made the cut from three heats, to compete for the ABBF Untapped crown, in the Saturday night’s “Top of the Hops” competition.

For those wanting to get a taste of the brews and the Watsacowie vibe, the family-owned brew house is located on the outskirts of Minlaton, a stone’s throw away from the seaside gems of Port Rickaby, Hardwicke Bay, Port Vincent and Stansbury.

The dedicated taphouse, which is in its sixth year of trading, has a relaxed country vibe, with an industrial fit-out, hosting live music and local food trucks, with plenty of winter-warming weekends lined up for July and August.

Local cover band, Rokoustika, will be taking requests from the 80’s right through to today’s favourites on Saturday July 8. Chilled acoustic sounds from Annie Wheare will make for a perfect Sunday session on July 9 and the six-tap mobile brewery will feature at the Yorke Peninsula Tractor Pull at Price on the first weekend in August.

Co-owner Roxanne Phasey said the award-winning microbrewery had far exceeded their expectations from very early on in their venture, with huge support from both locals and regular holiday-makers to the beautiful Yorke Peninsula.
