Ever Considered Laser Hair Removal? We Tried It, Here’s What It’s Like

We recently were invited by the crew at SILK Laser Clinics to trial some of their treatments and, to be honest, weren’t sure what to expect. But that all soon changed.

Believe it or not, it’s actually spring.

The weather may be causing us to think differently, but September marks the three months before summer, and the perfect chance to get beach body ready. No, we’re not talking about getting into shape, we mean all things skin.

So we looked around. And the name SILK Laser Clinics popped up more than once. We weren’t exactly sure what we were looking for but they had the full range. Their services include laser hair removal (face, underarms, legs, and Brazilians), facial treatments (such as cosmetic injections, microdermabrasion, and dermal peels), laser tattoo removal, skincare packages for post-treatment care, and skin concerns such as brightening and skin healing. Plus it’s their birthday this month and we spotted they were having a sale.

So Glam got in touch and were lucky enough to be invited to receive the full SILK laser hair removal experience.

For those who don’t know about how Laser treatments work, essentially a concentrated beam of light is aimed at your hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment, which damages the follicle enough to retard future growth. Everyone responds to the treatment differently, but generally hair starts to fall out a couple of days after the treatment and won’t come back. You’ll usually need multiple treatments to remove all the hair from a certain area, but it certainly makes a noticeable difference after the first treatment.

Deciding to try laser hair removal on my underarms and full legs, my treatment was looked after by Kimberly, who was knowledgeable and professional. She made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process, and kindly answered any questions that I had. Afterwards, I felt like a smooth dolphin.

One of the main concerns of laser hair removal is that it uses laser (and we’ve heard everything about them). But don’t worry – it’s not something out of an action movie, where a spy is strapped to a table as a laser beam sizzles towards them. Laser hair removal uses a highly efficient, medical grade laser, which simply removes, or decreases the amount of, unwanted hair, using laser light. I was scared that it would be painful, but it’s only a little uncomfortable, and I personally didn’t feel anything for 98% of my legs. If you’ve tried waxing, laser is a quicker, less painful option with long-term benefits. SILK offers laser removal on all parts of the body from the eyebrows down, with discounts available for a set number of treatments, and promotions available for different combinations of laser removal done within a session.

After the session, SILK generously provided us with a complimentary treatment package, recommended for post laser hair removal care, and available for purchase. This package included a cleanser (with papaya and pineapple to refresh, and aloe to purify and calm), soothing gel (with aloe, calendula, and cucumber to soothe, and to act as an anti-inflammatory), a face and body scrub (with lactic acid to exfoliate, and pomegranate and kiwi to moisturize) as well as an SPF (to protect), with information on how and when to use then, so I could properly take care of the areas.

We had such a great experience, and were so genuinely impressed, that we booked in another appointment.

A bit more about that birthday sale SILK are having this month, the discounts across all their treatments are worth considering:
– 50% off laser hair removal
– 40% off laser tattoo removal (we regret Bali, badly)
– 30% off skin treatments
– 20% off skin packages
– 20% off products
– 10% cosmetic injections

This is all on top of their usual offers, such as discounts for a lifetime, and eight to six week treatments. We’re told appointments are being booked fast, and we’re not surprised. We’d definitely recommend the treatment!

SILK Laser Clinics are located across the metropolitan area. You can track down your closest clinic via the SILK Website and find out more about the deals they have coming up via their Facebook.
