West Beach Parks is set to inaugurate a new community square and play space, a project with a total investment of $2.9 million, it was announced today. The upcoming development, known as The Square at West Beach Parks, will be a central feature along the coastline, equipped to host community events and recreational activities.
This new initiative is financially supported by a $1.45 million grant from the State Government’s Planning and Development Fund and will see West Beach Parks overseeing the development in collaboration with Studio Nine Architects. The project aims to reintegrate the site with natural vegetation and enhance connections within the local and broader communities to West Beach.
With construction starting this month, the project is expected to reach completion later in the year. The facility will incorporate a variety of public amenities including a kiosk, a playground, shelter, and more, all designed to engage residents and visitors, encouraging a relationship with the natural surroundings.
Jane Jeffreys AM, Chair of the West Beach Trust, shared the project’s alignment with broader strategic visions for the area. “The Square at West Beach Parks is a beachside community open space encouraging connection to nature, to play and to community for the enjoyment and wellbeing of everyone,” Jeffreys stated. “It will be the heart of the West Beach Parks precinct and is aligned to our Master Plan, linking visitors to the area’s unrivalled diversity of natural, recreational, community and sporting activities.”
Housing and Urban Development Planning Minister, Nick Champion, commented on the state government’s role in the development. “The State Government is partnering with West Beach Parks to deliver a new public space that will create a more liveable, sustainable and healthy community,” said Champion. “It’s great that work is beginning to revitalise this important public space. This is a key commitment to encourage more people to get outdoors and be active in the community.”
The West Beach Parks precinct sprawls across 135 hectares of beachfront land including two accommodation properties, two public golf courses, various competition-level sporting facilities, a boat haven, and a spectrum of lessees. The new development promises to be a pivotal addition that enhances the broad appeal and functionality of the precinct.
