West End Redbacks Sweep Bushrangers

West End Redbacks A superb bowling performance has seen the West End Redbacks defeat the DEC Victorian Bushrangers by six runs in the second of their matches against the Victorians in the NT Top End Twenty20 Challenge.

On Saturday, the Redbacks failed to defend a total of 129 against the XXXX Gold Queensland Bulls but today it was a different story with the total of 7/110 proving defendable.

Some early tight bowling from Gary Putland and Aaron O’Brien  put Victoria on the back foot in their run chase with both bowlers recording maidens in their opening overs leaving Victoria 1/12 after four overs.

There was some resistance from Bushranger Ryan Carters but the Redbacks were able to keep themselves in the match with tight bowling lines and superb efforts in the field.

Carters, who opened the batting, looked to be the key wicket as he batted through the entire innings.

His knock of 51 off 58 balls was all in vain as some fantastic bowling from Putland and Daniel Harris at the death saw the Redbacks claim their second win in three games.

Earlier, the Redbacks innings got off to a bad start as a top order collapse left South Australia 3/12 after the first few overs.

In desperate need of stability, some middle order hitting from Cameron Borgas (44 off 44 balls) and Tom Cooper (26 off 20) rescued the innings.

The Redbacks had yesterday off before playing their final match against Queensland on Tuesday, with the action getting underway at 10.30am.
