Western-inspired retail store Howdy Partner to launch at Karma and Crow

Howdy Partner, a new concept store and collaboration between three SA creatives, is set to open up shop at popular west side eatery Karma and Crow this September.

Gone are the days of hitting the local cafe just for your morning coffee or brunch—now, they’re the place to go for last-minute gifts, vintage homewares, classic vinyl, and even thrifty fashion!

The newest on the cafe/concept store scene is Howdy Partner, a collaboration between three fun and friendly SA creatives. There’s Es Winter from homewares and gift shop See Someone Studio, Lillie Clark bringing the pre-loved fashion with Maybe April, and jewellery creator Heather McNab from Fencesitter—and they’re all coming together this September to open up shop in the studio space at popular west side eatery, Karma and Crow.

Opening on Tuesday, 5th of September, the team at Howdy Partner are excited to introduce their inclusive concept space to the people of South Australia.

‘There aren’t a lot of retail spaces out there that are really immersive, interactive and feel safe for people to freely express themselves’, says Es of See Someone Studio. ‘Yes, we’re a retail store, but we want to encourage fun and creativity, and we welcome everyone to come in and explore what we hope to be a one-stop happy shop.’

Featuring homewares from See Someone Studio, including everything from candles, ceramics and board games, fun vintage fashion from Maybe April that caters to all sizes and genders, and sustainable jewellery and accessories from Fencesitter that also provides options for both men and non-binary, the team at Howdy Partner want people to find things that make them happy.

‘Yes, we’re a retail space, but we want people to have an experience in-store and buy things that make them feel good, not just because it’s what’s on trend or popular on socials,’ says Es. ‘With everything from the fashion to the homewares available, we have a variety of more neutral boho-inspired pieces to a range that’s more bright, colourful and with a western feel to it.’

The team have worked hard to create a space that’s unique and brings the feel-good vibes from the moment you walk through the door. ‘The vibe is very Bowie, acid trip, western movie set inspired,’ says Es. ‘We’ll have fun and interactive areas set up in the store with retro lounges, coffee tables and western films playing on an old school tv, and a western-themed mural to add to the atmosphere.’

All of the vintage fashion will be highly curated to suit the aesthetic of the store, and the team at Howdy Partner will also be working with a lot of Adelaide curators and creatives to feature their products along with their own.

‘We want people to know it’s a partnership, that it’s three brands working together. From our perspective, collaboration is the way forward in retail—with the economy as it is and how hard it can be for small businesses and brands, we want to support each other to create something exciting,’ says Es.

Besides the retail space, the team are looking forward to hosting creative workshops and inviting other South Australian artists to participate too. ‘I’ll be leading ceramic workshops, Heather will host various jewellery-making sessions, and we hope to get several textile creatives in who will focus on mending and slow fashion classes too.’

Opening from Tuesdays through to Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm, and with rotating workshops on Wednesday and Sunday evenings, this fully accessible space is designed to encourage creativity and inspire a sense of liberation amongst its visitors. ‘There’s a lot of freedom in not taking yourself too seriously,’ says Es. ‘We’re all a bit wacky—in a good way—and we hope that people can let loose and have a fun, memorable experience when they visit us.’
