Tucked away on Currie Street, Adelaide, Maison Clement is flipping the script on French dining with its $49 dégustation menu, proving you don’t need deep pockets to enjoy authentic French cuisine.
This cozy spot invites diners to dive into a full French experience every night, choosing an entrée, main, and dessert from their regular menu without the fancy price tag. And that’s why they offer a degustation for just $49.
The brainchild behind Maison Clement’s approach is their owner, Clement, who grew up in a bustling household where the kitchen was the epicentre of family life.
Drawing from his childhood memories, he’s on a mission to showcase the kind of French food that’s rooted in home cooking. Growing up with a backyard full of animals and fresh produce from the local market, he learned the ropes of cooking from a young age, even mastering the art of preparing a chicken by the age of 12.
“Sunday lunches in France were always quite the degustation: entree, main, cheese and then dessert were always on the table. We would then spend 3 to 4 hours at the table, eating and talking about everything and nothing.” Clement said.
“Any siblings rivalry or arguments didn’t matter a theses times as everyone wanted to be at the dinner table.”
Maison Clement’s dégustation menu is a nod to those simpler times, offering a taste of genuine French family meals. It’s about recreating those long Sunday lunches.
But the allure of Maison Clement extends beyond dinner. Kickstart your day with their imaginative pastries like the Lemongrass Caramel Croissant Tart or settle in for a hearty lunch featuring classics like tartare de boeuf and baked camembert. Come evening, the menu expands to include favourites such as escargot a la bourguignonne and Scotch Filet with garlic baby potatoes, all while keeping their famed $49 degustation menu.
Maison Clement stands as a testament to the idea that French dining can be accessible and downright delicious without the extravagance.
With a selection of meticulously chosen French and South Australian wines to complement the meal, this little slice of France in Adelaide is all about great food and good vibes.
It’s a laid-back spot where the essence of French dining — communal, cozy, and filled with flavours — is celebrated every day.
