We’ve found the ultimate all-you-can-eat Japanese experience for under $20

With over 30 traditional dishes over 2 hours, including sashimi, sushi, gyoza, crispy tempura, and black sesame ice cream.

If there’s two things that make Adelaidians collectively swoon – in no particular order – it’s a bargain and Japanese food. Lucky for us, Okami Restaurant in Glenunga is serving up both, with an all-you-can-eat lunch for just $19.80 Monday to Friday, and $21.80 on weekends.

For the flat fee, customers are invited to eat as much delicious, sumptuous, soul-singing Japanese food as they desire over a generous two-hour sitting. The menu includes over 30 traditional Japanese dishes, including authentic sushi and sashimi sliced to order, gyoza, crispy tempura, carpaccio from Australian Angus beef, Agedashi tofu, tempura prawns, chicken teriyaki and more.

Dessert is just as tempting, featuring scoops of green tea, black sesame or vanilla ice cream, plus a traditional fish-shaped cake filled with sweet red bean paste. If you’re not salivating with lust right now, there’s something critically wrong.

The all-you-can-eat menu is split into categories – entrées, mains, and desserts – and every dish is freshly made and brought to you by the attentive and knowledgeable wait staff.

If you’re not up for the loaded feast, there’s an equally enticing à la carte menu to drool over. Settle in for crunchy katsu or karaage bento, sushi platters, fried udon noodles with vegetables, or a grilled unagi (eel) don (rice). A takeaway menu is also available with a wider range of options to choose from. If you’re more of a moonlight muncher, the all-you-can-eat experience is available for dinner at $42.80 a head.

Be warned, if your eyes are bigger than your stomach, you’ll want to check in before you order that extra serve of gyoza. Okami are steadfast in their efforts to minimise wastage, so a charge of $15 applies for any uneaten item exceeding 200 grams, with an additional charge of $5 for every extra $100. And if you’re trying to slip your final sushi roll to Tina, who opted out of the bottomless option, they’re also firm on no sharing with à la carte customers.

Founded in Melbourne in 2013, Okami has since grown to more than 50 locations nationwide, and Adelaide can’t get enough. With flavours that transport your taste buds straight to the bustling streets of Tokyo, and seafood that melts in your mouth the way it does at the Tsukiji Market, it’s easy to see why.

Test your limits (and your waistline) and taste your way through Okami. The only thing more delicious than the food is the price. Bookings encouraged.
