What to expect at this year’s Moon Lantern Trail

Kicking off a weekend celebrations, the Moon Lantern Trail honours the rich harvest festival traditions and stories from across Asia.

Mark your calendars for an enchanting experience at the Moon Lantern Trail, part of the OzAsia Festival, happening from Thursday October 24th– Sunday the 27th, 2024, at Tarntanya Wama (Pinky Flat). Kicking off a weekend celebrations, the Moon Lantern Trail honours the rich harvest festival traditions and stories from across Asia.

By day, the area is beautiful and inviting, but as the sun sets, the Karrawirra Parri/River Torrens riverbank will transform into a mesmerising wonderland of light and sound. With over a dozen giant lanterns illuminating the path, visitors can stroll through a magical atmosphere that captivates the senses.

One of the standout attractions is the stunning Hong Kong Dragon lantern, a spectacular 40-metre-long dragon.

Showcasing the best of Asian and Asian Australian art and culture, OzAsia Festival is curated by Artistic and Executive Producer Joon-Yee Kwok.

“This spring, we’re thrilled to host some of Asia and Australia’s most acclaimed artists,” Joon said.

“As the sun shines brighter and the days grow warmer, it’s the perfect time to leave winter behind and come together with your loved ones at OzAsia Festival.”

Families can enjoy a delightful mix of activities, including delicious food stalls, roving performances, puppetry, and live music that will keep everyone entertained. Kids can get involved in creative workshops led by talented Adelaide artists and local communities.

Highlights of the festival include interactive installations, culturally inspired performances, and food experiences that showcase the best of Asian cuisine.

Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier, says Ozasia is the first festival of its kind in the nation.

“OzAsia Festival is proud to engage with Asian and Asian Australian arts, culture and ideas through all art forms,” he said.

“In its seventeenth year, Joon’s program is a continuation of our rich tradition, demonstrating the power that the arts have to connect, inspire and delight us.”
