As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games kick off tonight (see how to watch the opening ceremony here), South Australia is represented by a strong contingent of athletes who are part of the Australian Olympic Team. Australia’s total team includes 460 athletes, and 45 of these competitors are either natives of South Australia or honed their skills and trained in the region during this Olympic cycle.
Here’s where to catch our South Aussie Athletes in action this week at the 2024 Paris Olympics:

SATURDAY JULY 27
On Saturday at 4:30pm, SA shooters Jack Rossiter and Dane Sampson will compete in the 10m Air Rifle, Mixed Team Qualifications to earn their place in the final round to shoot for Bronze or Gold at 6pm or 6:30pm respectively.
Meanwhile, the Australian Boomers will take to the court at 6:30pm to face world number two, Spain in the Basketball Group Phase (A) Men’s competition with Small Forward, Joe Ingles representing the southern state.
In the first swimming heats, our swimmers in the Men’s and Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay are yet to be confirmed – check out the SASI website or the official Paris 2024 Olympics website for the live schedule and results.
SA Hockey Forward, Tom Wickham will join the Kookaburras at 8:45pm to take on Argentina in the first round of the Pool B men’s hockey competition.
At 10:30pm, Australia will verse Sweden in Pool A of the Beach Volleyball competition with Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher hauling to Paris from Adelaide.
The Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Qualification round will see Jesse Moore take to the mat at 11pm for the All-Round competition and depending on his performance, we will hopefully see him in the finals 1am Thursday. He is also due to feature in the Floor and Pommel Horse finals on Saturday at 11pm and Sunday at 12:46am respectively.
SUNDAY JULY 28
On Sunday, Jack Rossiter and Dane Sampson will return to the competition for the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Qualification round at 6:45pm Shooting Qualification round, with the finals held the next day at 7:45pm.
Our rowers will take to the River Seine for the Women’s and Men’s Four heats, with Molly Goodman and Olympia Aldersey are competing at 8pm with Alex Hill on the water at 8:20pm. On Tuesday, they’ll get a second chance to make finals with repechages (a contest for those who failed to win heats compete for a place in the final) at 7pm and 7:10pm respectively. The finals will hopefully see Molly, Olympia and Alex return to the boat with the women’s final at 7:20pm and the men’s at 7:40pm on Thursday.
At 8:15pm, midfielder Jane Claxton – currently with the Adelaide Fire – will join the Hockeyroos in their clash against South Africa in Pool B of the Women’s competition.
MONDAY JULY 29
Next week is due to start of with a bang – or should we say a spike – with our men’s Beach Volleyball team on the sand to face Italy at 4:30pm on Monday with two SA big hitters, Zachery Schubert and Thomas Hodges.
The Kookaburras will return to the Men’s Hockey Pool B competition with Tom Wickham to face Ireland at 5:30pm.
Four South Aussies will take to the court at 6:30pm for the first round of the Women’s Basketball Group B’s first round. Tess Madgen, Cayla George, Steph Talbot and Isobel Borlase will help Australia secure the win over Nigeria.
And it’s back to the water at 7:10pm with Angus Dawson in the Men’s Eight Rowing Heats. He’ll get a second shot at the finals at 5:50pm in Men’s Eight repechages. The finals, at 6:40pm on Saturday, will hopefully feature Dawson.
TUESDAY JULY 30
On Tuesday, the Hockeyroos will return to the pitch with Adelaide midfielder Jane Claxton in their clash against England at 12:30am.
Later that day, at 4:30pm Australia’s Beach Volleyball Men’s team will face Poland in Pool C – with SA’s Zachery Schubert and Thomas Hodges.
In the pool, Kyle Chalmers is confirmed in the Men’s 100m Freestyle heats at 6:30pm, with the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay heats – also at 6:30pm – yet to be confirmed. Check out the SASI website or the official Paris 2024 Olympics website for the live schedule and results.
If Kyle competes well in the heat, we will see him in the pool again at 4am on Wednesday for the 100m Freestyle semifinal and fingers crossed for him to make it to the finals on Thursday at 5:52am.
Then the Aussie Boomers will face Canada at 9:00pm in the Basketball Group A competition with Small Forward Joe Ingles.
Gloves up! In the Boxing Preliminary’s in Men’s 80kg Round of 16, one of the first Indigenous athletes to qualify for the Australian team, Callum Peters will fight at 11:48pm. He’ll return on Saturday for two quarterfinal bouts, one at 12:36am and another at 5:06am.
WEDNESDAY JULY 31
On Wednesday at 1:30am, Adelaide’s Lauren Mansfield and Murray Bridge’s Alex Wilson will compete in the Basketball 3×3 Women’s match against Canada.
The Hockeyroos, with South Aussie Hockey Forward, Tom Wickham will play Belgium at 3:15am in Pool B of the Men’s hockey competition.
Later in the day, SA’s own Sophie Linn will compete in the Women’s Individual Triathlon at 3:30pm.
Jack Rossiter and Dane Sampson will return to the range at 4:30pm to qualify for the Men’s 50m Rifle (Three Positions). If they progress, they’ll shoot their shot in the finals at 5pm on Thursday.
Midfielder Jane Claxton will help the Hockeyroos in the expected-to-be tight game against the USA in Pool B of the Women’s competition.
THURSDAY AUGUST 1
On Thursday, Lauren Mansfield and Alex Wilson will take on Germany in the 3×3 Basketball Women’s competition at 1am. Later in the day, they’ll take on China at 4:30pm to progress up the ladder.
To the sandy courts of Beach Volleyball, Zachery Schubert and Thomas Hodges will also take on Germany in the Men’s Pool C competition at 4:30pm.
Our first Athletics event with a South Australian rep, will be Olivia Sandery in the Women’s 20km Race Walk at 4:50pm.
At 5:30pm, Pool A of the Beach Volleyball Pool competition will see Adelaide’s Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher take on Qatar.
Then, Tom Wickham and the Kookaburras will play New Zealand Black Sticks Men at 6:00pm in the Men’s Hockey Pool B.
In the pool, Meg Harris will jump into the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay Heats. Currently holding the world record in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay, Harris is expected to return for the finals at 5:19am on Friday.
The Aussie women’s 3×3 Basketball team – which includes SA’s Lauren Mansfield and Alex Wilson – will battle America at 8:30pm in the pool round to move up the ladder.
SA’s Tess Madgen, Cayla George, Steph Talbot and Isobel Borlase return to the court at 9pm on Thursday for the women’s Basketball Group B game against Canada.
FRIDAY AUGUST 2
On Friday, Hockeyroos and their SA-born Midfielder, Jane Claxton will face Argentina at 3:45am in Pool B of the Women’s competition.
The women’s 3×3 Basketball Comp will see South Aussies’s Lauren Mansfield and Alex Wilson joined by Anneli Maley and Marena Whittle in their clash against Azerbaijan at 5pm.
In the pool, Matt Temple will be swimming in the Swimming Heats Men’s 100m Butterfly at 6:30pm. Hopefully to return for the semi’s at 4:30am on Saturday.
It is unconfirmed who will be competing in the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay heats at 6:30pm on Friday – so keep in the SASI website or the official Paris 2024 Olympics website for the live schedule and results.
The 3×3 Women’s squad will return to our screens to fight Spain at 8pm for a chance to progress.
Then the Hockeyroos, with South Aussie Hockey Forward, Tom Wickham will face India at 8:45pm in the Hockey Pool B competition.
At 9pm, the Aussie Boomers and SA’s Small Forward, Joe Ingles take on Greece in hopes to move up the Group A ladder.
SATURDAY AUGUST 2
On Saturday, Adelaide’s Izzi Batt-Doyle will run in the Women’s 5000m at 1:40am.
