Where To Celebrate World Gin Day In Adelaide

The incredible array of gins on offer in South Australia’s distilleries, bars and restaurants deserve a dedicated day of appreciation, and World Gin Day on June 12 is just that. With parties, masterclasses and tastings popping up across Adelaide, we’ve rounded up some of the best events celebrating World Gin Day that cater to every keen ginthusiast.

Cosy gin den The Howling Own, which houses over 140 worldwide gins are transporting guests on international ‘gin flights’, to either Europe, The Americas or Australia. Guests will receive a South Australian G&T, followed by a tasting board of four gin varieties, paired with seasonal garnishes and premium Fever Tree mixers. Howling Owl’s ‘flight captain’ (AKA their resident Gin specialist) will also be on hand to talk through the origins of each gin.

Prohibition Liquor’s Gin Masterclass 

In celebration of World Gin Day three masterclasses will be run by Prohibition founders Adam Carpenter and Wes Heddles as well as Prohibition Head Distiller Hugh Lumsden. Gin-loving participants will be given insights into the gin distillation process, taking a guided our of four of Prohibition’s finest drops, with tonic and garnishes provided to enhance each sip. The 90-minute limited-space masterclasses are running at 12, 3 and 6pm and also include a signature gourmet toastie for each guest. Tickets will set you back $40pp.

Next Door Cocktail Bar’s Martini Masterclass

Martini lovers will be in great company as Martini master Philip Jones hosts a special martini cocktail class in Prohibition Liquor’s sister venue Next Door cocktail bar. The class will include expert tips on making the best martini as well as a Prohibition Bathtub Cut Negroni, with a delicious antipasto grazing platter available between your cocktails. The 3 hour cocktail-making session will be held from 2 – 5pm and will set you back $69pp. Act fast – spaces are limited to 20 people!

Oyster Bar Holdfast Shores

Oyster Bar at Holdfast Shores is pairing up with local distillery Threefold Distilling, offering free gin tastings from the distillery’s very own Aidan Shaw from 1 – 3pm, $10 Threefold Gin & Strangelove tonics all day and $15 Threefold cocktails all day. This is the place to head if you want to spend your World Gin Day breathing in the ocean air, as its beautifully situated on Marina Pier in Glenelg.

Hains & Co World Gin Day Party

With a curated list of international gins on offer in their Gin & Tonic bar the talented Hains & Co. bartenders will be joined by a DJ for a World Gin Day celebration that starts at 4pm. As well as serving delicious botanical gin cocktails all evening there will also be a gin bath for that insta-worthy photo opp.

La Boca’s World Gin Day Dinner

The talented kitchen team at La Boca has lovingly created a 3 course menu paired with the crisp flavours of local gin favourites 23rd Street Distillery. Gin lovers will be spoilt for choice with a limited edition 23rd Street gin flight alongside delicious gin cocktails on offer. The dinner will set you back $89pp and will run from 6 – 9pm.

Imperial Measures Distilling Ounce & 1/2 Recovery Session

From midday those who might have gone a little hard for World Gin Day can pick up some hair of the dog, with Imperial Measures serving oysters alongside a special Red Snapper gin-based Bloody Mary cocktail to kick off their epic Recovery Session on June 13. Throughout Sunday the venue will host live music from three local artists, as well as a fully-stocked cocktail bar, high-end hat maker Blakesby, games and activities including a Best Dressed competition and of course their full cocktail bar stocked with some incredible gins. The event is free entry and is sure to be radiating party vibes long into the night.

Haigh’s Gin-Inspired Chocolates

Haigh’s Chocolates partnered with Adelaide Hills Distillery, Archie Rose Distilling Co. and The Melbourne Gin Company to create the perfect World Gin Day treat. The Collaboration Presentation Box brings together the skills of three independent, highly skilled distilleries with the knowledge and experience of Haigh’s own chocolatiers and confectioners. It is currently in-store and online and will set you back $49.90 and it is limited edition, so act quick!

Ambra Spirits

Head to Ambra Spirits in Therbarton for a free gin tasting event where guests can enjoy tasting paddles and $10 gin and tonics. There’ll be a backdrop of atmospheric live music all day and a heated undercover courtyard, sure to keep you toasty throughout the day’s gin-themed celebrations.
