Why This Award-Winning Adelaide Restaurant Is Still On Our Hit List

Rigoni’s Bistro is like the heart throb of Leigh Street and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

Rigoni’s Bistro has been a fixture of Leigh Street since 1979, so it’s easy to dismiss the restaurant as just a reliable old favourite. But the longstanding bar and restaurant (which actually began as Rigoni’s Cafe on Moonta Street back in 1956), is constantly bringing out new ways for us to gorge ourselves on delicious Italian food and drink.

It seems an odd thing to write, but this 60 year old establishment is the newest addition to our ‘must try’ list! Not only because they serve Bombolini Con Nocciola (Nutella filled ricotta doughnuts) for breakfast, but because they’re consistently winning awards and praise from professional foodies.

So what’s all the fuss about? Well, Rigoni’s Bistro serves only the very best in modern Italian cuisine, without neglecting traditional flavours, breads and pastas.

Our dinner pick would have to be the Triangoli Di Barbabietole Con Formaggio Di Capra: beetroot & goats cheese ravioli with burnt butter, walnut, chives & lemon rocket pesto. However, if you’re a big meat eater you might prefer the Bistecca Alla Griglia: grilled Coorong Angus Beef marinated in pickled horseradish chat potatoes, roasted capsicum, spiced chorizo, basil, roasted hazelnut and jus.

We’re also suckers for a good event, and Rigoni’s Bistro love any excuse to throw a party. Coming up is their Melbourne Cup Lunch; do you prefer Prancing Pony Beers or Hentley Farm Blanc De Noir? Because copious amounts of both are included, along with 3 amazing courses, for just $130.

Of course, you don’t need an excuse to grab a few drinks at Rigoni’s. Friday nights are a real highlight, with knock-off drinks out on the street proving especially popular.

Fear you’ll miss out on the amazing food due to allergies? Fear not! Rigoni’s are happy to accomodate even the fussiest of eaters. So while “gluten free” and Italian dining are usually incompatible (you poor, poor Coeliacs), Rigoni’s Bistro have you covered!

Great food, flexible options and the amazing Leigh Street atmosphere? We can’t fault it.

Rigoni’s Bistro is open Monday to Friday from 7am until late, and Saturday 6pm until late. The best thing? You don’t even have to leave your desk to make a booking. Do it online here, and thank us later.
