If you like recycling initiatives which support SA’s regional townships, then you’ll love the Whyalla Foreshore’s brand new Visitor Pod! The mini tourism shed was made using repurposed materials previously used to build Adelaide 500’s corporate boxes and Tasting Australia structures.
As Whyalla is home to a mixture of Art Deco and Moderna architecture of the 40s and 50s, the pod is a breath of fresh air, with its modern curves and stainless steel details.
The pod offers tourist information alongside retail items, and cuttlefish and jetty merchandise. As Whyalla’s one-of-a-kind circular jetty continues to attract all sorts of new visitors, especially in the summer months, a near-by visitor information centre was a no-brainer to capitalise on Whyalla’s growing audience.

As tourists explore the new visitor centre, getting a sneak peek at all the gorgeous gems Whyalla has to offer, you can also grab an ice cream there before walking up & down the jetty.
The Whyalla Foreshore is one of the large leisure and recreation areas in the region, which offers safe beach swimming, and great fishing spots for tommy ruff, garfish, and some species of whiting, squid, and blue swimmer crabs. At low tide you can walk out to the “blue line” in search of a feed of fresh crab.
If you’re lucky, you may also be able to spot a pod of bottlenose dolphins – the group of friendly residents which often visit the Whyalla Marina.
Beyond the Whyalla Foreshore, the new visitor pod will also be able to advise on the region’s best beaches, which display unique seascapes and coastal environments. For example, you can visit False Bay – a declared marine park for Giant Australian Cuttlefish. False Bay is the largest known spawning aggregation of Giant Australian Cuttlefish in the world. Who knew that was in our own backyard?!

Tourists are also welcome to explore the Stranded Shingle Beach Ridges along the coastline of Upper Spencer Gulf, which have been provisionally entered for inclusion as a State Heritage Place in the South Australian Heritage Register.
The unique Shingle Beach Ridges of Whyalla is one of only three Shingle Ridges included in the world register – the other two located in Egypt and Scotland.
To learn more about Whyalla and its nearby tourist attractions, visit the brand new Visitor Pod located on the foreshore. The Pod is open Fridays to Mondays from 12pm to 4pm.
