Wicks Estate brings the Royal Adelaide Sparkling trophy home to South Australia

For the first time in over 20 years, a family-owned Adelaide Hills winery has taken out the award.

Family-owned Adelaide Hills winery, Wicks Estate has today been awarded the Hurtle and Norman Walker Trophy for Best Sparkling Wine in Show for its 2013 Wicks Estate Pamela Sparkling at the 2019 Royal Adelaide Wine Show marking the first time in over 20 years that a family-owned Adelaide Hills winery has taken out the award.

The Royal Adelaide Wine Show is Australia’s most prestigious wine show receiving 2,500 wines from over 300 wineries across the country. Trophy winners were announced at the annual Royal Adelaide Wine Show lunch with the Chief of Judges, Louisa Rosa and International Wine Judge, Joe Czerwinski sharing details of the judging process.

Previous winners of the trophy include; House of Arras Blanc de Blancs, Chandon Whitlands Blanc De Blanc and Seppelt Salinger.

Founders Tim and Simon Wicks are particularly proud of the award;

“This is a wine we have always been proud of and receives extra care as it carries the name of our mother, Pam Wicks. It’s exciting to be able to share this news with her and tell her the wine has been named Australia’s top sparkling”! Tim has commented

’Pamela’ is made by renowned Adelaide Hills Winemaker, Leigh Ratzmer in the traditional method, enjoying more than four years on lees to establish her fine creamy bead. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are grown, and the wine is crafted, on Wicks’ Estate in Woodside creating a wine with developed notes of brioche and hints of fresh cut apple that finishes clean and fresh on the palate – combining old world traditions with new world style.

Wicks Estate has long been synonymous with the production of premium, cool-climate wines that champion the Adelaide Hills region. The Wicks name has recently been making waves in the wine and fashion worlds with the makeover of its Estate Range which coincided with the 2018 Adelaide Fashion Festival, an event Wicks Estate proudly partnered with for its 11 years.

‘Pamela’ is also receiving a fashionable, new look with the new packaging planned to hit the shelves just in time for Christmas.

The 2013 Wicks Estate ‘Pamela’ Vintage Sparkling has a recommended retail price of $30 and is available through specialist retail outlets.
