Wilderness dining experience, Gastronomo, to launch on Kangaroo Island

Gastronomo is essentially a series of bespoke dining events, designed to lead guests on a journey.

Nick Hannaford is determined to create something memorable with his new, rather magical-sounding dining venture.

Gastronomo is essentially a series of bespoke dining events, designed to lead guests on a journey.

“It’s not just about what a customer tastes, sees, or shares on Instagram – it’s how they feel or what they remember that counts,” he says.

The experience will celebrate authenticity, with guests asked to “go dark” on social media, and not share pictures of events.

“There’s magic in the mystery,” says Hannaford.

Whilst most of the Gastronomo details are still under wraps, Hannaford says the first event will take place at a secret location on Kangaroo Island.

Partners include Sealink, Kangaroo Island Spirits, and Kangaroo Island Tourism, Food, Wine and Beverage Association, with a curated wine list by Nick Stock.

Hannaford has over 25 years of experience in creating immersive hospitality and tourism adventures, having pioneered five-star dining in the Queensland rainforest for international incentive groups, and guests including Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall.

These events led to the iconic Flames of the Forest dining concept, voted in the top 100 gourmet dining experiences by Gourmet Traveller in 2010.

Hannaford was also the creator and producer of award-winning Kangaroo Island FEASTival, and an original member of Port Douglas Carnivale, and has worked with a high calibre of Aussie chefs such as Matt Moran, Pete Evans, George Calombaris, Simon Bryant, Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer.

Hannaford also heads award-winning luxury accommodation business, LifeTime Private Retreats, which was voted the number one honeymoon destination by Australian Traveller magazine.

More to come.
