Two big South Australian wines have hit the market this week, from both Henschke and Coonawarra. These wines have been not only highly anticipated but are extremely exclusive, so if you’re a wine collector then you might want to snap them up.

This week marks the release of the 2013 Henschke Hill of Grace. The very small crop was handpicked in the cool mornings of autumn in 2013, and then spent five years in the cellars before release this year, which also marks 150 years of Henschke family winemaking.

With its deep crimson colour, the wine has rich aromas of blackberry, blueberry and dark plum, followed by signature exotic five spice, star anise, and sage, with underlying nuances of beef stock and dark cedar.

And this is a rare one – due to the very small 2013 vintage, a limit of one bottle per person has been applied. You can buy it online The bottle is now available for purchase online, or if you don’t want to commit to a bottle, you can taste the new release on a VIP tour at Henschke. Book here.

Henschke are also hosting a Hill of Grace 2013 launch dinner at the Hill of Grace Restaurant on Thursday the 20th of September. To celebrate 150 years of family winemaking at Henschke you can taste the Hill of Grace alongside eleven other new releases, paired with five courses created by the talented head chef Nigel Munzberg. You can find tickets to the exclusive event here.

Also hitting the market this week is the most expensive wine ever released in Coonawarra.

Two of Coonawarra’s most famous families, the Balnaves and Redmans, have joined together to release the 2016 William Wilson Coonawarra Shiraz Cabernet. The wine is dedicated to their joint relative, William Wilson, who is credited with the discovery of the region’s terra rossa soils.

The 2016 William Wilson Shiraz Cabernet is very much in the traditional ‘claret style’, with medium body, fine grained tannins and a balance of fruit and structure.”

Only 200 dozen of the limited edition wine have been made, and they’re selling for $300 a bottle.

You can get it at the Redman Wines and Balnaves cellar doors, or a small selection of independent wine stores.
