Wine Review: Muster Wines Grace Under Pressure Blanc de Blancs

East End Cellars sommelier, Iris Zhang, reviews Muster Wines’ Grace Under Pressure Blanc de Blancs, describing the wine as “tingly”, with a precise, long finish.

Gottfried Muster and his young family immigrated from Silesia to South Australia in August 1859 and settled in the Barossa Valley shortly after.

A career spanning more than 30 years in the wine industry, in both domestic and international markets, has provided David with a depth and breadth of knowledge, experience and relationships across numerous channels within the wine industry.

On the 29th August 2009, 150 years to the exact day of Gottfried arriving in Australia, David Muster (6th Generation Australia) released his first wine under the Muster family label.

Today, in the wine world of South Australia, it is safe to say David Muster is a true legendary figure. Not only does he have one of the best distribution portfolios, but his own wines also are highly regarded.

Established in 2007, Muster Wine Company is a progressive and passionate maker and marketer of premium wine, from vineyards in the beautiful Barossa and Clare wine regions. They are 100% family owned and family operated.

Muster Wines focus on small batch winemaking from single vineyards, showcasing sub-regional nuances, and have developed trusting relationships and partnerships with vignerons which is essential to the core quality and making of each wine.

The wines are crafted to highlight fruit and acid balance and pair beautifully with food with many listed in some of the best restaurants and fine wine stores around the country.

Muster Grace Under Pressure

A beautiful Blanc de Blancs for everyday consumption

Pressure is a part of everyday life. While stressful at times, pressure can be defining and a virtue when we maintain our grace and composure. Much like this, wine, when put under pressure, gets to showcase its grace, style, balance and personality.

Premium cool climate fruit, grown in flinty limestone soil, contributes to the refined brightness of fresh apple, citrus blossom and a soft tingly finish. 100% Chardonnay, from a single vineyard in Mt Gambier.

Its proximity to the Southern Ocean provides the coolest maritime climate in mainland Australia. Ideal for sparkling wine. The vines are planted in fractured flinty limestone, with a ribbon of shallow but fertile soil which contributes to the mineral element characters in the wine.

Maximum care is taken to process the fruit gently to avoid over extraction, maintain vibrant fruit characters and soft acidity. The wine had extended lees contact (approx. 18 months), between secondary fermentation and bottling.

Tasting Notes

This is a high quality, sparkling with a delicate and balanced bouquet of lemon, white flowers and green apple. The palate holds poise and is enlightened with crisp notes of apple and citrus blossom. Encapsulated by a tingly yet precise and long finish.
