Winter bucket list alert: French-Alps Raclette Igloos announce Adelaide date

Have you been noticing those French Alps-looking igloos popping up on your socials lately? If you think it’s too good to be true, think again.

The Raclette Igloo experience is headed to Adelaide from May 10th, and you can expect all your winter wonderland dreams to come true. Think traditional French dishes oozing with melted cheese, cozy winter mountain-style ambiance, fire pits, snow, and more.

Perfectly timed as Adelaide starts to cool, the private igloos will take over Festival Plaza with the richness of Raclette cheese, accompanied by sips of mulled wine and the cozy warmth of fire pits with marshmallows.

Some of my best memories are gathering around the Raclette grill with my friends and family, savouring the delicious flavours and enjoying each other’s company, Vincent Hernandez, Raclette Igloo Founder and Director, says.

There’s over 14 different igloos, each named after renowned French ski resorts, where you can get together your friends or family in groups of 6 or 8 people, ensuring an exclusive dining affair.

You’ll be greeted by snowfall, the tantalising aroma of mulled wine, and the enchanting glow of pine trees and fairy lights.

French-speaking staff will greet you at your tent upon arrival, enhancing the cultural immersion, while a dedicated Raclette Guide will shepherd you through the nuances of enjoying your French dishes.

Traditionally ‘raclette’ refers to a sensation which has popped up all over the web due to its ooey-gooey appeal, which was originally invented to warm up after a long day on the slopes. The word ‘raclette’ comes from the French verb racler, meaning to scrape. It’s an allusion to the way in which the melted cheese is scraped from the half-wheel once it’s been held up to a heating apparatus.

That urn is exactly what you’ll find at your table, along with the Raclette cheese (which the team have imported two tonnes of from the French Alpine regions). Plus, just like in the Alps, the winter delicacy will be served alongside cured meats, boiled potatoes, pickled onions, and cornichons.

In fact, you can even melt your own Raclette the way the French do – with passion!

And for those yearning for a touch of nostalgia, the equipped mini bar offers an array of beverage options to accompany the feast.
