This winter, the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company’s Winter Choc Fest is back, bringing the very best of Barossa chocolate (and wine) to Tanunda.
“Winter Choc Fest was born out of our desire to celebrate the magic of winter in the Barossa,” shared Sally from the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company team. “With sweeping vineyard views, a shimmering lake, and spacious lawns, our outdoor areas are just too beautiful to leave empty during the cooler months.”

The Winter Choc Fest is slightly different from what you might envision for your classic festival. Running across July and August, the team will be hosting winter dome dining on their picturesque lawns, where you’ll have a chance to kick back and relax in a pretty epic igloo-inspired setup.
For 90 minutes, your dome becomes your private retreat, complete with a speaker so you can play your favourite tunes. Guests can choose from three delicious options, including a full hot brunch platter, a hearty pizza and sides lunch, or a sweet afternoon tea.
“My tip? Go all-in with the brunch or the pizza lunch, and don’t skip the decadent chocolate dessert. It’s all served with a stunning view and plenty of cosy vibes,” said Sally.

These will all be paired with some delicious couverture chocolate, sweet treats, and of course, Barossa wines.
“Pairing Barossa reds with chocolate can be a challenging task and one that requires an enormous amount of taste testing,” said Sally. “While Barossa has always been known for big, bold Shiraz, more recently the region has been crafting exceptionally elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and vibrant Grenache, a lighter style red wine.
“When pairing wine with any food, you assess the individual components of both and determine what flavours and elements will enhance and complement. For example, when first tasting the Vineyard Road Barossa Valley Grenache, the wine will show lots of lovely acidity, but when you taste it with the Milk Chocolate Honeycomb with high sweetness level, the acidity can appear to be paired back or the rich bold flavours of a Great Australian Red, like the Vineyard Road Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is beautifully complimented by the Dark Chocolate Lemon and Raspberry with the fruit flavours enhanced in both when tried together.”

The prices for the domes range from $20pp for the afternoon tea, $40pp for brunch, and $45pp for lunch. And while it’ll be cold outside, the Barossa winter sun can be surprisingly warm in the domes, so bring your sunnies and dress in layers. If you’re bringing the kids, once they’ve had their food, the team recommends letting them run and play on the lawns while you unwind with a glass of wine or a signature hot chocolate, or taking their pic in the chocolate throne.

Alongside the domes, Barossa Valley Chocolate Company have heaps on as part of their Winter Choc Fest. They’ve got new experiences and tastings, and the team recommend keeping an eye out for their new chocolate workshops, make your own rocky road, and mystery code cracker kids game.
