For the first time, this local pool has opened for a winter season, inviting the community to head down and enjoy the water in the cooler months.
Until September 26th, the George Bolton Swimming Centre in Burnside will remain open as a way to accommodate demand due to the closure of the Adelaide Aquatic Centre in North Adelaide.
“With the closure of the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, the State Government has requested that Council extend the opening of the George Bolton Swimming Centre to include a winter season,” shared City of Burnside CEO Julia Grant.
“The extended opening is to meet the increased demand for aquatic facilities in the metropolitan area during this season. The City of Burnside have secured an agreement with the Office for Recreation, Sport, and Racing (ORSR) to extend the operations of the George Bolton Swimming Centre while the Adelaide Aquatic Centre is under reconstruction.”

For the winter season, swimmers can access the main 50m pool and changeroom facilities, and there is space allocated for club training, lap swimming and gentle exercise only. Throughout the season, the learner pool, toddler pool, playground, and Hazel’s Café will not be operating. With these adapted facilities, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a quieter, more focused swim in a calmer atmosphere.
“The extended season will now see swimmers able to use the facility during the winter months for the first time in the centre’s history,” shared Julia.
“Swimmers can come along during the reduced operating hours for lap swimming and gentle exercise. The additional weeks of operation and access are a bonus for our swimmers, in particular those with a twelve-month membership.”
Throughout the season, the pool is open Monday to Friday, 6am to 9:30pm and 4pm to 7:30pm, and on Saturdays 7am to 10:30am. So if you’ve been looking to try something new, or get back into the pool, this new addition to Burnside’s George Bolton Swimming Centre is the perfect excuse.
“The winter season has been very well received by our community and is popular with lap swimmers who want to maintain their fitness.”
If you currently have a season pass, you’ll still be able to use that throughout the winter. If you’re a non-member, you can either purchase a season pass or pay per use.
