With 10 Days Left, Don’t Miss The Eggnog & Ice-Skating At Alpine Winter Village

Over 80,000 people have already come through the gates to our little slice of winter wonderland, and another 20,000 are expected in the final week. Time to pop in again we think!

Who’d have thought it? This winter has been cold and wet, yet more than 80,000 people from across the city have been outdoors this, and not only playing Pokemon Go. The debut of the Alpine Winter Village at Torrens Parade Grounds has been a rousing success so far, with the Adelaide Riverbank activation expected to attract over 100,000 people by it’s conclusion on July 31.

Live music, an ever-changing lineup of creative Christmas themed markets, bonfires, family friendly entertainment, delicious food and eggnog (the Apres Ski Lodge Bar is like a home away from home!) have all been key draws of the first year, all tied together by the heart of the wonderland, the open air ice skating rink surrounded by some of the the whimsical characters of the Credit Union Christmas Pagaent.

One of The Riverbank Authority’s objectives coming into this was to find new ways to attract more people to the Adelaide Riverbank. You’d have to say that the Authority, Renewal SA, The Social Creative and the Little Miss Group, all the partners involved for that matter, have knocked this one out of the park. The Alpine Winter Village really has not only brought people outside this winter, it’s brightened the mood of the city by playing to the strength of South Australia with an event (what else!) that we can truly embrace as our own during the coldest part of the year. And it’s been family friendly, smack bang in the school holidays and leading into the evenings for the after work crowd. All the boxes ticked really.

Similar events could be held in the redeveloped Festival Plaza when it’s complete as well, so the potential for the future growth of the Riverbank Precinct in Adelaide could be described as limitless really. It’s all down to the creative imagination of our industry.

But that’s in the future. In the now, there’s just 10 days so take your chance to enjoy the last window of wintry delight. Head down to the Torrens Parade Ground before it’s too late! Get your skates on and enjoy the open-air ice rink and activities such as the European-style Garden Market and the Apres Ski Lodge. During the day you can catch the kids’ entertainment, tasty treats and hot chocolate, and leading into the evening why not skate under the stars, enjoy winter delicacies with mulled wine for the grownups, as well as live music.
