After opening in August with a farm-to-fire concept and Bradley Perrot (formerly of Magill Estate) in the kitchen, the Adelaide Hills venue 1000 Reasons announced its sudden closure.
In a heartfelt Facebook post shared on October 29, the team wrote, “It’s with both heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we share this news — after much reflection, we’ve made the difficult decision to permanently close 1000 Reasons.”
The post went on to thank patrons, producers, and staff for being part of the short-lived journey.
“This journey has been one of laughter around the fire, long lunches shared with friends, and countless cherished memories. We’re deeply thankful to everyone who supported us along the way — our loyal patrons, our dedicated team, our local producers, and the wonderful community who believed in what we set out to create.”

The Echunga cafe and restaurant opened its doors on August 1, promising “fire-licked, soul-fed” cooking in a light-filled “modern farmhouse” designed by owner Julie Culley. The concept centred on a traditional Argentinian parrilla and outdoor asado grills, with ingredients sourced from local producers like Salad Greens & Herbs and Adelaide Hills Harvest.
Culley, a hospitality veteran who previously ran a boutique hotel in Malta, hoped 1000 Reasons would become a space to slow down, reconnect with nature, and eventually stay overnight once the venue’s planned glamping domes opened.
But despite the vision, the realities of running a regional hospitality business in 2025 proved too tough.
“The current hospitality climate has made it increasingly challenging to deliver the level of service and experience we always strived to provide for our guests,” the post continued.
“We sincerely apologise to anyone with upcoming bookings or planned events and truly appreciate your understanding during this time of transition.”
1000 Reasons joins a growing list of South Australian venues forced to close in recent weeks, including 99 Gang Social on Hindley Street, Rita’s in North Adelaide, and Yellow Matter Brewing, all citing the same pressures – rising costs, staff shortages, and a tough post-COVID trading landscape. It’s a sign of the times, as small operators battle to keep the lights on and the fires burning.
Locals have already filled the comments with messages of love and loss. “What a shame — the food and service were fantastic. It was becoming a strong favourite in the area,” one fan wrote. “So very sorry it’s come to this, but lucky and privileged to have spent a day with you both on your gorgeous property,” said another.
For now, the flames at 12 Concannon Road have been extinguished. But for those who dined by its fire, shared a long lunch, or stocked their pantries from its providore shelves, there are – fittingly – a thousand reasons to remember it.
“Though this chapter is coming to an end, the friendships, experiences, and stories born here will stay with us forever,” the team concluded.
