According to the forecast, this weekend is going to be hot hot hot! As a result, a handful of festive events that were scheduled in for the next few days have unfortunately had to cancel or postpone, while others are going ahead.
We’re here to keep you in the loop, so with that in mind, here’s a list of festive events still happening this weekend and those that have been forced to buckle under the heat.
Carols by Candlelight: going ahead as planned
With the weather forecasting a sunny 33 degree day on Saturday the 14th, organisers of the 80th annual Carols by Candlelight are all set to welcome an expected crowd of over 15,000.

Civic Park Carols: pre-show cancelled, main event going ahead
Due to the 40 degree forecast on Sunday, the Civic Park Carols organisers have made the difficult decision to cancel the pre-show, which was scheduled from 5pm to 7:30pm. But, if you were planning on going, all is not lost, because the main event is still going ahead from 7:30pm onwards, featuring an excellent line up of local talent.
This year, guest vocalists include acclaimed actress, author, and singer/songwriter Justine Clark, as well as Tim Campbell, one of Australia’s most versatile and much-loved entertainers with leading roles on stage, TV shows and national prime-time host. Also performing on the night are Shaun Holton, Henry Olonga, Stephanie Cole, children’s entertainers Funny Farmers and, most importantly, everyone’s favourite Christmas couple – Santa and Mrs Claus!
There will also be face painters from 4-7:30pm if you’re there early and looking for something for the kids to do!

Balaklava Christmas Pageant: Cancelled
In a post on Facebook, the organisers shared the following about Sunday’s event:
🎁We want to address the community’s uncertainty surrounding the upcoming Balaklava Christmas pageant on Sunday. After a meeting today and contacting all participants, we regret to advise the pageant has been cancelled due to the heat.
Unfortunately, we cannot control the weather and want to keep the best interest of the community front of mind. This decision has not been made lightly, with every alternative explored. While we share in the disappointment, there are many upcoming local community events to enjoy in the lead up to Christmas.
Keep an eye out for pallet tree entries and winners in the coming days.
Thank you for the support and hope to have a wonderful event next year!
