Woodside’s first pilates studio has opened its doors

Woodside’s first pilates studio has opened its doors for all fitness levels.

Woodside, get ready to stretch those muscles and put your stresses aside at brand-new Pilates studio ALine Pilates and Nutrition.

Located in the Woodside Main Street, ALine Pilates and Nutrition is a Matwork Pilates studio using small pilates equipment.

There are classes for everyone from beginners through to advanced, stretch classes for those who want something more gentle and pregnancy and postnatal Pilates.

ALine Pilates and Nutrition business owner and instructor Kim Hicks says the space is for people to build their Pilates practise, strengthen, breathe and stretch.

“I really wanted it to be a place of inclusivity, so for anybody who wants to do something different people who have moved away from exercise for a while and want to try something a bit more gentle and for people who have never done Pilates before or also for people who have been away from Pilates for a while and want to get back into it,” she says.

“I love Pilates myself, I have been a Pilates client for many years, I just wanted to try something different. I have been an instructor for about year now and wanted to have a space of my own that everyone can come to, and a place of inclusivity.”

“I am a mother myself, so I just want a place where I can feel comfortable and at ease where I am and I wanted to create a space for people from all walks of life, the older generation can come, I want it to be for them as well, and for mums too, we are a real family space.”

“I am getting new clients everyday, I am getting lots of enquires and it is building every day.”

The studio is located in a small space in an early 20th-century building, which still has characteristics of its former glory, but Kim has transformed the space into one that is warm and welcoming with a modern interior, clean-cut spaces and a bit of a feminine touch.

“When you walk in you feel like your whole stress outside is just gone and all the weight is off your shoulders, it is a nice relaxed space,” Kim says.

Kim’s passion for Pilates stretches a long way, as she started practising Matwork Pilates six years ago and practised through her two pregnancies.

“After having two children I wanted to try something that’s not so hard on the body and is a bit more gentle,” she said.

“Pilates is such a great method of exercise, it is great for all walks of life, physios use it as well in part of their rehabilitation, It helps to increase your flexibility and improve your pelvic floor. And it is just great for the body.”

Kim became a certified Matwork Pilates Instructor In 2021 and continued to expand her Pilates knowledge with Pregnancy and Postnatal Pilates, and Small Equipment and Advanced Pilates.

Alongside her Pilates practice, Kim runs her online Nutrition Coaching program, Mindset Nutrition, and she is releasing an online program next year.

A new piece of equipment called a Wunda Chair will be added to the studio at the end of the year, which is great for pregnancy, rehab and people with injuries.
