World-class opera and ballet is coming to Adelaide on the big screen, exclusively at the Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas.

The 2015/16 Palace Opera & Ballet season presents an exciting new programme of opera and ballet screening direct from Europe. From 30 Oct 2015 until 3 August 2016, Adelaide audiences can spend their weekends at Europe’s finest opera houses, experiencing the biggest stars of international opera and ballet – all from the comfort and convenience of the Palace Nova!

Returning to local screens this season are productions from The Royal Opera House (London) and Opéra National de Paris (France) and, for the first time in Australia, La Scala & Opera d’Italia (Italy) will bring performances from opera’s spiritual home.

Included in the season from The Royal Opera House are twelve new-season Royal Opera and Royal Ballet productions direct from London’s Covent Garden, including five new productions. The first performance will be The Royal Ballet’s 50th anniversary production of Romeo & Juliet (in cinemas 30 Oct – 4 Nov). Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s masterpiece, made famous by Prima Ballerina Assoluta Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, will be presented for the big screen by host Darcey Bussell. In this performance, the love-struck Romeo is danced by brilliant Australian Principal Steven McRae and his beautiful Juliet by American Principal Sarah Lamb.

Opéra National de Paris will be presenting six new-season productions from Opéra de Paris and Paris Opera Ballet, direct from Paris’ Bastille Opera House and the historic Palais Garnier, including five new productions. The Paris season commences with Paris Opera Ballet’s Robbins/Millepied/Balanchine (in cinemas 13-18 Nov), where new Director of Dance Benjamin Millepied pays tribute to his masters, George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, two truly great choreographers, both of Russian origin, who led the American School, and dance in general, to rarely attained heights. This mixed programme includes Robbins’ Opus 19/The Dreamer, Balanchine’s Théme et Variations and Millepied’s brand new collaboration with composer Nico Muhly, Clear, Loud, Bright, Forward.

Palace Opera & Ballet is thrilled to include, for the first time in Australia, La Scala & Opera d’Italia, a series of seven productions from Italy’s greatest opera houses: Milan’s La Scala, Venice’s La Fenice, Rome’s Opera Roma and Turin’s Regio di Torino, concurrent with their Italian live performances. The first production is La Scala: Gala des Étoiles (in cinemas 4- 9 Dec), a highly prestigious event made accessible through cinema, and will be captured live in HD from the stage of Milan’s Teatro alla Scala on 30 October. Performed to celebrate the closing of the 2015 Milan World Expo, this ballet celebration will see La Scala étoiles Svetlana Zakharova, Massimo Murru and Roberto Bolle dance alongside the world’s brightest stars (from companies including The Royal Ballet, Bolshoi and American Ballet Theatre), performing beloved works from the classical repertory including Carmen, Swan Lake and Don Quixote. An unmissable feast.
