Was anyone else mesmerised by the glitz and glamour of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary masterpiece, “The Great Gatsby”? I recall it fondly from my high school days as a teen English student and budding writer, transfixed by the characters that were brought to life first through text and later through film.
A 1920s story of love, loss and wealth in America during the Jazz Age, this tragic tale is now being brought to the stage through a sensational dance production coming to Adelaide in September this year.

The world premiere of The Great Gatsby: A Jazz Ballet Odyssey is a brilliant showpiece proudly presented by BIG Live, featuring principal dancers Abbey Hansen and Ervin Zagidullin, and offering a glorious reimagining of Fitzgerald’s timeless classic.
Directed and choreographed by Joel Burke, with narration arranged by James Millar, this vibrant spectacle is set to dazzle audiences with its world-class dancing, and a score blending Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Summertime, and James P Johnson’s The Charleston, including brand new works by the legendary Jason Fernandez and Dominic Cabusi.

This jaw-dropping fusion of jazz, ballet and tap comes complete with spectacular sets and costumes, unveiling a talented ensemble of theatre professionals for a series of shows set to marvel and stun audiences of all ages and walks of life, from die-hard Gatsby fans to show newbies who just want to enjoy the magic and watch the story unfold for the first time on stage.
If you’re captivated by stories of love and social status, materialism and greed and the ultimate search for the American Dream, you won’t want to miss The Great Gatsby: A Jazz Ballet Odyssey.
