World’s first inflatable fountain is popping up in the Adelaide Hills

A gigantic cupid surrounded by 10 oversized goldfish in mock terrazzo ponds, is headed to a popular hills park this March.

The world’s first inflatable fountain is making its way to a popular Hills destination this Mad Marsh, with a gigantic cupid, surrounded by ten oversized goldfish in a mock terrazzo pond, popping up in Mount Barker.

The Mount Barker Council and the Adelaide Festival have joined forces to transform Keith Stephenson Park into an inflatable wonderland, with Cupid’s Koi Garden finding its home on the leafy green reserve for six days.

The free installation, running from March 9 to March 14, has been created by the talented technology company ENESS, the brains behind the popular Illuminate Adelaide installation, Airship Orchestra.

ENESS have used cutting edge 360-degree tracking technology to centre around the cupid and its ten oversized goldfish. The five-meter high cherub also boasts cute LED eyes and an interactive soundtrack – but be careful – it’s prone to squirting you with jets of water – however, on a scorching summer afternoon that’s nothing to whinge about!

The team of artists, musicians, software engineers, industrial designers and thinkers call themselves ‘Happiness Architects’ and their aim is to change public space by introducing unexpected artworks that forge deeper moments between friends, family and enable strangers to meet and find common ground.

ENESS could easily be a team of magical elves but are in fact an Australian collective who make truly wonderful things. Since 1997, the group have entranced children and adults from museums of modern art all the way to the streets of Mumbai.

The installation will be supported by food vendors and open daily 10 am-10 pm promising plenty of cheer!

The council paid $50,000 to bring Cupid’s Koi Garden, which has previously been displayed in Melbourne’s Federation Square.

The Mount Barker district will also host eight Fringe Festival shows in February and March.

The tricky cupid is holding court for six fun-filled days only. Pack the kids in the car and zip up to Mount Barker. Make a day of it!

The Cupid’s Koi Garden will run from March 9 to March 14 from 10am until 10pm.
