Perched atop a hilly site in the picturesque Victor Harbor, Wren House stands as a testament to sustainable design and harmonious living with nature.
This new tiny house, with its modest 45m2 footprint, offers a unique and luxurious escape for those seeking tranquility and a deep connection with the environment.

The architectural brilliance of Wren House is immediately evident as you step inside. Bi-folding doors seamlessly connect the interior to a small deck, offering breathtaking views of McCracken Hill. The outdoor bath invites you to unwind while immersing yourself in the serene surroundings.
It demonstrates that a tiny footprint does not equate to compromise. Luxury, comfort, and a feeling of spaciousness permeate the house’s interior, defying its compact dimensions.
“We always knew we wanted to “touch the earth lightly” in the design of the Wren House, and create a house in harmony with its environment without displacing any existing life or cutting down any trees,” co-owner Irina Deslandes says.
“It was also incredibly important for me (as an architect) to showcase that a tiny house doesn’t mean you have to compromise on luxury, comfort and the feeling of space. Many comments from people visiting the house have said they wouldn’t know it’s only 45m2 in footprint.”

The construction of Wren House reflects its commitment to sustainability. A waffle pod slab serves as the foundation, while Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) create the walls and roof structure. Double glazing, sheet metal cladding, and fiber cement cladding complete the building envelope. To achieve complete off-grid living, the house incorporates solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and a worm farm septic system.
The house owes its name to the wrens that reside on the site, and specific native plants have been thoughtfully chosen to support and enhance the local wildlife.

The impact of Wren House extends far beyond its architectural beauty. It has become a proponent of tourism and awareness for the enchanting Victor Harbor and its surrounding areas. The owners have forged meaningful relationships with local businesses, showcasing the best of the region’s produce and wine.
Victor Harbor, with its ever-evolving infrastructure and stunning coastal attractions, serves as an ideal backdrop for Wren House. This charming coastal town has experienced a surge in popularity among tourists, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic. Families and young travellers flock to Victor Harbor as their go-to weekend beach destination.
Wren House welcomes all individuals seeking relaxation, tranquility, and a touch of luxury. From couples embarking on a romantic getaway to those seeking meditation and yoga retreats, the house offers a haven for diverse guests.
Even local celebrities, like Matt Tarrant and his partner, have had the pleasure of experiencing the serenity of Wren House.
In the era of sustainable living, Wren House stands as a testament to what can be achieved when design and harmony with nature coexist.
“Knowing that we get to provide a space for individuals seeking a place to relax, unwind and connect with nature is incredibly rewarding,” Irina says.
