If you’re familiar with South Australia’s coastline, it’s no secret that our sunny state is home to some of the most stunning and pristine beaches.

But now it’s official, with a Yorke Peninsula beach placing high up the ranks of the best beaches in the nation as voted by Tourism Australia.

The 2022 results are in! Flaherty’s Beach has taken home fourth in the national competition. With crystal clear, aqua blue water and a stretch of long white sand, Flaherty’s is a coastal gem nestled between Hardwicke Bay and Point Turton.

The sandy span of coastline is perfect for families and lovers of water sports alike, with the shallow aqua perfect for paddling with little ones. Head out into the deeper big blue, and you’ve got the ideal spot for paddling boarding, water sports and swimming.

The beach is also 4WD drive accessible, so beach-goers can set up the car and canopy, kick back and enjoy the sunshine. It’s one of the only beaches that South Aussies can drive on, and its remote location means sometimes, you may have the entire beautiful beach to yourself – how good is that?!

This isn’t the first time Flaherty’s has been recognised as one of the most stunning coastlines in Australia. Last year, Sydney-based TikToker and photographer Adam Rikys dubbed the beach ‘the most beautiful’, with the video clip amassing more than 15,000 likes on the social media site.

And here at Glam, we like to think of Flaherty’s Beach as SA’s own Whitehaven Beach or a tropical paradise, the dreamy colours and calm scenes drawing absolute bliss.

Taking home the number one spot in the 2022 Tourism Australia competition was Misery Beach, WA. Unlike its name, the coastline, just 20km from Albany, is a slice of aqua paradise. Other top spots include Horseshoe Bay in NSW and The Spit on the Gold Coast.
