American popstar Katy Perry absolutely rocked the Adelaide Entertainment Centre last night, but there’s an Adelaide local who totally stole the show.
Katy kicked off the Adelaide leg of her ‘The Lifetimes Tour’ last night to a packed AEC crowd, impressing the audience with all the hits and some pretty epic mega-medleys from her expansive, almost two-decade-long career.
But there was someone in the crowd who was dreaming of impressing the superstar herself. Armed with an epic homemade sign and some well-practised choreography, young dancer Keegan Power was keen to get on stage and dance with Katy.
You may recognise Keegan as a viral star from Dua Lipa’s ‘Radical Optimism’ tour earlier this year. Keegan was in the audience and hyped up the crowd around him at one of Dua’s Melbourne shows at Rod Laver Arena with some of his now iconic moves from his seat in the stands. These moves even got the 12-year-old on the news.
At last night’s show, Keegan lined up early with other Katy fans to get a good seat. While waiting, he even got a chance to speak with Channel 7. He showed his sign, which read, “Katy let me dance with you”, and explained his hopes of dancing with the superstar. He even showed off his talents with a backflip.
While Keegan impressed from the stands at Dua Lipa, he was front and centre last night. Katy saw his sign and brought him on stage, calling him a “star!” Keegan said that he’s “been dreaming of this moment” since the day he got tickets.
The two bantered back and forth, with Katy asking him to dance for her and to “show me what’s up,” which he playfully responded with “you better sing first, babygirl!”
Keegan then whipped out an absolutely fabulous routine to the highly anticipated surprise song, ‘Swish Swish’. ‘Swish Swish’ had been left off earlier set lists, making its Adelaide performance even more special.
Keegan used the stage, got the crowd involved, and nailed this once-in-a-lifetime performance. As the dance ended, Katy shouted to the audience, “Adelaide, I feel like you have a star on your hands,” and we couldn’t agree more.
The Glam Adelaide team were in the house, and grabbed a video of Keegan up on stage, which has since gone viral, racking up nearly 400,000 views across our social media platforms, and the comments are pouring in with love and support for Keegan.
An Instagram user said, “This kid is born to be in the spotlight!”, and another said, “This kid!! Just out here living their best life.”
Keegan says his dream in life is to go on tour and to sell out arenas and stadiums, but more importantly, he just wants to dance.
Katy has three shows remaining in Adelaide, with one tonight and tickets are still available.
