Young SA entrepreneur opens brand new Barossa distillery

At just 21 years old, Caitlin Curtis has opened her own distillery in the heart of the Barossa Valley alongside her father as the CEO.

On the flats of the lush Barossa Valley, exists a small rural location with a population of only 88 residents, known as Vine Vale. This charming sub-region is now home to the Edinburgh Distillery, founded by 21-year-old Caitlin Curtis, which officially opened in June this year.

The team over at Edinburgh aim to source much of their produce locally, which applies to their Shiraz grapes which are grown on the same site as the distillery. Combining her evident creativity and her determined business mind, Curtis has dreams to make her company a staple in every bar.

As of July 2022, the company have released four alcoholic products, available for purchase on their website.

The Barossa Valley Shiraz Gin is sure to be a crowd favourite. Distilled at their award-winning single vineyard and enriched with hand-picked fruit, this brings out the gorgeous deep colour and sweet taste. It’s recommended to add ice to this flavoursome drink, or a slice of orange to acquire the ultimate taste experience.

Or, sip on the La Tibelle Butterfly Pea Flower Gin – I’m already sold! Infused with Clitoria Ternatea flowers, this gin has botanical notes, along with citrus and earthy flavours.

The clear blue liquid is divine, but when acidity or carbonation is combined (aka your choice of mixer), you’ll watch as the colours transform from blue to purple to pink or somewhere in-between.

If gin isn’t your preferred alcohol, the Black Vodka is one you may enjoy. It’s delightful in a Negroni, with lemon tonic, or just on its own. Unlike traditional vodka, this version carries a sweet and fruity flavour – and the label glows in the dark which we think is pretty cool.

Do yourself a favour and satisfy your tastebuds with the newly released Edinburgh Distillery spirits. We love supporting local businesses, and we urge you to do the same!
