This Friday, June 21st marks the shortest day and longest night of the year. This year’s Winter Solstice is at an early 6:20am, but fortunately, the festivities for the occasion are spread over the weekend. From relaxing beach yoga and sound baths to DJ sets and brewery festivals, there are heaps packed into the days surrounding the solstice. Make the most of it, there’s something for everyone on this list!

Winter Solstice Evening at Henley Beach

Mark the longest night of the year, under the luminous full moon, with an introspective Yin Yoga practice.
Rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Winter is a season for stillness, introspection, and gentle self-care. By harmonising your habits with the season, nourish your vital essence and support your body’s balance and immunity.
Located on Henley Beach, indulge in Yin Yoga, a sound bath, nourishing dinner and other self-care practices. All equipment will be provided, but guests are encouraged to bring a water bottle, journal, pen, and anything else to make them comfortable.

Winter Solstice Party at Kick Back Brewing

Winter Soulstice

The Winter Soulstice is one of the biggest nights of the year at the Adelaide Hills’ Uraidla Hotel. Join them in celebrating the solstice by rugging up by the bonfire and enjoying great food, wine & beer.
Rik’s Grill will be slinging their tasty eats from their food van. Also, Staazi & Co have joined the fray for all the non-meat eaters with their amazing vegan treats. If you have a sweet tooth then TaCHs Stroopwafels will be bringing all their delicious treats along.
Plus, acoustic musicians will be playing up a storm, alongside a surprise visit from their very own roving fire twirler & performers!

Brighton Winter Solstice

The Brighton Winter Solstice is a winter street party with cosy fire pits, festoon lighting, live music, and kids’ activities. Existing Jetty Road food, drink and retail traders will have activations on the street, or extend their trading hours for the evening. Plus, there is live music on the main stage from 4pm until 9pm, a kid’s zone with free crafts and outdoor games, a free silent disco and table tennis.
The Brighton Winter Solstice is the perfect family event to celebrate the festivities!

Winter Solstice Paddle

Join the annual paddle at the West Lakes Shore, and begin the new solar year with a bang! This celebratory night paddle is approximately 7km and 1.5 hours long and will conclude with a drink at the Bartley.
Due to the nature of the event, an all-around white light is recommended to be attached to the kayak or paddler. A couple of Cylume sticks or head torch are other options. The light you use must be diffuse and not too strong as it will overpower everyone’s night vision. Other things like warm paddling attire, a good paddling jacket and a spray deck are essential, and solar lights that are suitable for mounting around your kayak deck.
This is such a fun way to celebrate the Winter Solstice and a fantastic event to get involved with!
