Prospect Road is a lifestyle and entertainment main street which lives and breathes historic charm and contemporary sophistication. There’s a bunch to see, eat and do, so why not discover the quirky hidden gems in the heart of Prospect Road.

Here are some of our top picks!

Experience inner-metropolitan café and brunch culture at Bottega Bandito, Cotto, Café Komodo (down the laneway), CIBO Espresso Prospect or Mekko Market & Café (Adelaide’s first rent-a-rack offering).

Head to eateries such as Anchovy Bandit. The hole-in-the-hall pizza and cocktail bar gets its quirky name from from an old Quieten Tarantino screenplay, ‘Captain Peach Fuzz, and The Anchovy Bandit.’

Since Anchovy Bandit is situated under a cinema, the name is pretty fitting! And like all good screenplays, Anchovy Bandit is filled with its own twists and turns – usually leading to good pies and good times.

More eateries include Meze-Mazi, Café Di Roma, Lechon Republic, Delhi Club, Al Mina, Arriba Grill, Jinsan Sushi Express, Punthai, Spargos, and Co and Nay. If you love burgers, AJ’s Kitchen or Stax Burger Co can fix you up!

Enjoy the night-time vibe and picturesque lighting as you head out for a cocktail or late-night nibble.

Wassail Wine Bar has long been a local watering hole and an institution for live music. The rambling 1890 house maintains a that old-world feel, with a century-old grape vine lining its beer garden. With antique furniture and salvaged mirrors adorning the walls, Wassail Wine Bar is a great spot for sneaky wines.

Newcomer, Sideways Liquor, is a boutique bottle shop and bar, where you can drop in and choose a drop to consume at home or pay corkage to consume inside. The casual venue is perfect for guests looking to roll up in their flip-flops and enjoy some Aussie-made wines, spirits and beers.

As mentioned above, Mekko Market & Café is a café and the home of sustainable fashion. Mekko is a unique space where shopaholics can ‘rent a rack’ and sell their higher quality preloved clothes. Mekko, first established in 2018, is Australia’s first rent-a-rack market and is always filled with one-off pieces.

Another great place to check out is Underground Records. If you’re into heavy music on vinyl, this is the place for you. Underground Records scopes out the best heavy psychedelic rock, stoner rock and doom records, as well as limited edition vinyls and collectables.

Once you’ve shopped, ate and drank your way through Prospect Road, there’s also plenty to see and do while you’re there. If it’s been on your to-go list, why not check out Adelaide’s ultimate art deco cinema, Palace Nova.

From March 24 to April 26 2022, Palace Nova will be hosting the highly anticipated 33rd season of the Alliance Française French Film Festival, showcasing the best of French cinema. Be whisked away to Paris, Cannes, Mali and beyond by a captivating line up of films. Find out more here.
