Winter has settled over the Adelaide Hills, and the region is gearing up to host South Australia’s biggest winter event. Winter Reds is back for 2024, with over 30 wine producers and venues coming together to celebrate the region’s famous cool-climate red wines.

Whether you spend the entire last weekend of July up in the hills, or you just visit for a day, you’re in for a real treat. Enjoy rustic, hearty food, rich red wines, and leisurely long lunches accompanied by live music, art displays, scenic trails, and the cozy warmth of open fires – the quintessential elements of winter in the Adelaide Hills.

There’s four categories of things to do: Cosy Classes for those who are eager to expand their wine knowledge. Fire + Feast is all about indulgence with a focus on delectable paired with exceptional Adelaide Hills red wines. Tour + Taste events for those keen on visiting multiple wineries in one day, and General Admission for if you want a bit of everything.

Winter Reds offers a stunning series of events throughout the last weekend of July, featuring red-wine experiences you won’t want to miss. Here’s our guide to a few highlights!

ANVERS WINES | Winter Blues at Anvers

Experience Anvers’ warm hospitality for a weekend with a Deep South twist. They’ll have wine tastings of new releases and vintage reds, paired with a comforting Southern-style menu featuring BBQ meats and wood-fired dishes. Whether you prefer cozy indoor lounge seating or outdoors lawn areas undercover, Anvers welcomes families and bigger groups (on small buses). Enjoy bonfires and all-day live music, and Saturday night’s main event: Max Savage with his electrifying blues rock and country vibes that’ll have you dancing all night long.

GOLDING WINES | Winter Wine Fest

To celebrate Winter Reds, Golding Wines will be hosting a ‘Winter Wine Fest’ over the last weekend of July. Located at The Barn, Golding plans to beat the winters chills with delicious food and wine. Guests can gather around outdoor fire pits or cozy up inside by the fire, while enjoying hearty dishes prepared by Dolly. Throughout the weekend, DJ Tania from Choons & Moovz will be spinning sets to keep things lively. The event is General Admission, with walk-ins welcome.

HOWARD VINEYARD | The Shiraz Social

Kicking off the weekend, Howard Vineyard is hosting “The Shiraz Social Feast” on July 26th, featuring a shared multi-course menu and a choice of sparkling, wine, or beer with your first pour. The festivities continues with “The Shiraz Social Event” on Saturday and Sunday, offering options like basic entry, marquee tickets, and lunches. Enjoy live music throughout the weekend, featuring DJ Ali, vocalist & DJ Lesley Williams, and DJ Kai.

KARRAWATTA | Dairy Block Party feat. Duncan Welgemoed

Karrawatta are hosting a Dairy Block Party for Winter Reds, teaming up with Africola and chef Duncan Welgemoed to bring an unforgettable Winter feast. Guests will indulge in their choice of dishes: Beef Short Rib Rendang with ginger rice and raw coconut, or Vegetarian Sweet Potato Massaman with ginger rice, rocket, boiled peanuts, and chili vinegar (vegetarian). Each dish is paired perfectly with a glass of their famous Adelaide Hills Dairy Block Shiraz. Plus, enjoy live jazz music by a duo as the fires roar to keep you warm.

Admire stunning views stretching from their vineyard to Mount Lofty, starting with a complimentary glass of wine. Guests will indulge in a hearty two-course lunch with options like Lemon and Thyme Chicken Breast, Slow Cooked Beef Curry, or Spiced Roasted Pumpkin. On Sunday July 28th, Sidewood Estate will be hosting the ultimate long lunch with an eight-course “feed me” menu crafted by renowned chef Jamie Carter. Jamie has given a fiery twist to the new winter menu, sourcing ingredients within 3km of Sidewood’s award-winning cellar door in the Adelaide Hills. Each dish will be expertly paired with Sidewood’s premium rose sparkling and red wines, finishing up with a taste of their 22-year-old Tawny and Sparkling Shiraz. Enjoy afternoon entertainment among heaters and fire pits, complimented by unique decorations for an unforgettable experience.
