Adelaide has a plethora of cool and quirky gin bars to hit up. This guide is all you need to know about the best of the best. There are lots of popular favourites, as well as some lesser known spots to check out.

South Australia is known for our excellent gin, Never Never, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers, Prohibition and Red Hen Gin being some of our favourites. Check out our full distillery guide to learn more about what our state has to offer.

But if you want to sample some of the most awarded gins in Australia and try some of the best international gins out there, you can do so right in the heart of Adelaide. From flights to cocktails, there is something in our guide for everyone.

The Howling Owl

Established in 2012, The Howling Owl is one of Adelaide’s premier gin dens. The sister business of Rhino Room and Urban Cow Studio, this is a café, specialty gin bar and function space all in one. 

At the Howling Owl, each gin is lovingly made for you, accompanied with a hand-picked selection of spices, fruits or herbs and Fever-Tree mixers that have been specially paired to match the botanicals.

You can find The Howling Owl at 10 Vaughan Place, Adelaide. 

Malt & Juniper

Located on Adelaide’s iconic laneway Peel St, Malt & Juniper is an intimate gin and whisky bar that pays homage to classic cocktail bars of yesteryear. You can relax in an intimate booth while sipping on one of their amazing cocktails.

The gin and whisky lists both run long, with a heavy contingency of local gin distillers balancing against a roster of national and international labels.

You can find Malt & Juniper at 18 Peel Street.

Hains & Co

One of our favourites, this nautical inspired bar has it all: gin, whisky, rum and even sausage rolls. This bar will completely transport you. They have a great selection of labels, so there’s something for everyone. 

They also offer tonnes of fun events throughout the year, such as their upcoming Gin 101 Masterclass. Past events include a champagne ladies night, as well as various fundraising events.

Prohibition Liquor Co

Super well known in the craft liquor world, Prohibition Liquor Co have many awards under their belt, including receiving the top prizes at the Singapore World Spirits Competition, the Melbourne International Spirits Competition and the Royal Australian Spirit Awards, amongst many others. 

Their distillery door and tasting room in the heart of the city is the perfect place to enjoy a gin tasting flight and some great small bites. 

Find Prohibition Liquor Co at 22 Gilbert Street. 

Clever Little Tailor

Located in the hidden hubbub of Peel Street, Clever Little Tailor has perfected the art of the cocktail. It may be small, but it is packed with an impressive collection of gins, whiskey and wines. 

Popular cocktails on the menu are the Neon Ballroom, Destination Unknown, a classic gimlet, among many more. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot to hit during a night out in the city.

Imperial Measures Distilling

This distilling company was created by two bartenders who wished to make gin rather than just drinking it and selling it for other people. They now sell their award-winning gins through their venue in Thebarton, and they are known from all Adelaide gin fans as making some of the best gins in the business. 

Some of their award winning gins include the Ounce Gin ‘Signature’, Once Gin ‘Bold’ and the Ruby Bitter. Pop by their distillery door to taste their gins and try one of their cocktails, and if you want, you can even bring your dog!

BRKLYN

A gin and cocktail bar inspired by the old speakeasies of the 1920’s and Brooklyn, New York. BRKLYN is a trendy spot for those who want to try out a tasty cocktail and soak up the atmosphere. 

There are a variety of local and international gins, as well as an ever-rotating selection of seasonal cocktails made with premium ingredients. Not much of a gin fan? They also serve craft beers and a selection of whiskies, rums and liqueurs from around the world. 

BRKLYN is located at 260A Rundle Street. 

23rd on Melbourne

Located a little outside the CBD on Melbourne street, 23rd on Melbourne is a truly unique representation of the company’s distillery in Renmark. You can pop in for a drink and to check out what nibbles they have to offer, or be guided through immersive tasting flights. 

They also run unique experiences perfect for any gin connoisseur, such as a guided masterclass in gin blending and cocktail mixology.
