While June marks the beginning of Winter, there’s no need to hibernate just yet. Instead, it might be time to dust off your dancing shoes, as long as you’re careful not to spill your winter red!

Here are our top ten picks for June (keeping in mind, some of these festivals have heaps of additional events themselves). Get set for another amazing month of fun.

1) Adelaide Cabaret Festival | 9th June – 24th June

Artistic Directors for 2023 Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Adelaide Cabaret Festival has gone all out, with the biggest and brightest performers announced today, as Adelaide’s favourite winter festival gets set to sizzle when it celebrates Adelaide Festival Centre’s 50th Anniversary in June.

Adelaide Cabaret Festival presents its 23rd program, featuring 342 artists and musicians across 91 performances including 13 world premieres and 20 Adelaide premieres by a large contingent of Australian artists and performers from the USA, United Kingdom, and France.

2) Gin Festival | 16th June – 18th June

The Gin Festival is returning to Adelaide for its 3rd year in a row and bringing with it over 55 different Australian craft distillers. Taking place at the Adelaide Convention Centre, you’ll have access to over 200 different gins to try all in the one room.

3) Frida & Diego: Love & Revolution | 24th June – 17 September 2023

An Australian-exclusive exhibition, Frida & Diego: Love & Revolution headlines the 2023 program at the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Iconic works by two of the most influential and loved artists of the twentieth century – Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera – will feature alongside works by their contemporaries in an exhibition that reveals the vitality of modern Mexican art while exploring the enduring allure of Kahlo.

4) Dark Lager Festival | 2nd June – 4th June

Adelaide is officially set to have its first dark lager festival. 

If you’re a dark beer lover, then you might know that breweries all over Australia hold dark beer festivals. But now it’s South Australia’s turn to shine the spotlight on dark lagers, with beer styles like Schwarzbier, Dunkel, and Doppleblock in the spotlight.

5) Comic-Con | 3-4 June

Oz Comic-Con is a huge convention focused on comic books and related forms of pop culture entertainment, including movies, TV shows, and video games. This worldwide sensation is landing in Aus once again, bringing some incredible guests from overseas this year.

6) Pure Black Winter Ball | 12 June

McLaren Vale’s Hugh Hamilton Wines (HHW) and Adelaide’s premier event, styling and catering company, Out in The Paddock (OITP), will collaborate to host the Pure Black Winter Ball. 

It will be a showcase of theatrical entertainment and high-end food and wine, set in a secret location, which event organiser Ray Dahdah said will have the crowd “gasping”.

7) Illuminate Adelaide | 28th June – 30th July

Sleepy Adelaide winters will be a thing of the past with Australia’s newest major event Illuminate Adelaide today unveiling its program of art, light, music and technology for 2023.

The innovative program boasts immersive experiences, world premieres and Adelaide exclusives in a range of ticketed and free events across the city including world renowned, multimedia studio Moment Factory who will showcase two new experiences – Resonate in Adelaide Botanic Garden and Mirror Mirror in the Illuminate Pavilion on Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga.

8) Cabaret Fringe Festival | 26th May – 4th June

For the past 20 years, Adelaide’s Cabaret Fringe Festival has warmed up audiences for South Australia’s winter festival season – and 2023 is no exception. 

The new-look Cab Fringe has just launched a dazzling new program for its 2023 festival, with 30+ shows to be held in CBD and metropolitan venues across Adelaide between 26 May – 4 June.

9) Winter Beer Fest | 24th June

The Lighthouse Wharf Hotel, nestled in the heart of the Port, is home to many things… lazy lunches, glowing sunsets, and last (be certainly not least) the Winter Beer Fest.

The annual event attracts locals and not-so-locals alike to the beachside venue, providing guests will the opportunity to taste a variety of locally brewed craft beers.

10) Matt Corby | 3rd June

Matt Corby has announced an Australian tour with dates across the country.

Revered artist, Matt Corby, today announces his first national tour in four years presented by triple j, in support of his upcoming album Everything’s Fine out March 24 via Island Records Australia. With the news, Matt previews his latest offering from the release, the hallucinatory ‘Big Smoke’.
