Here’s your guide on which wineries, distilleries and breweries are currently offering tastings, who’s charging what, and if you need to book.

If you’re considering heading out for a tasting to support our local wineries, breweries and distilleries this weekend, we’ve pulled together a list of where you need to book ahead, who’s charging what, and more.

As restrictions change, so might each venue’s process, so please check ahead with the destination you’re thinking of visiting.

Note: this guide was written on Friday 28 August, changes may be implemented.

Adelaide Hills

Ambleside Distillers

Ambleside Distillers produces uncomplicated, creative and innovative spirits. Sourcing the highest quality ingredients, which are mostly picked and grown in their distillery garden in the Adelaide Hills, each hand-crafted spirit encompasses its own personality, one that will have a lasting effect to stand the test of time.

Tastings: Their tasting flight is $20, which is a tasting of their core range Gins. 3 x 15ml pours, garnishes, ice and tonic. While it lasts you can also add their limited release Kifaru Gin for an additional $7. Book ahead by calling 0408834010 or [email protected]

Ashton Hills Vineyards

Long regarded as the benchmark for Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, Ashton Hills also produces an exceptional riesling and wonderful range of sparkling wines. Come and visit the rustic cellar door with its stunning views over the Piccadilly Valley and experience the range of award winning wines.

Between the Vines

Tucked away in the Adelaide Hills is this boutique family-owned and run cellar door with beautiful gardens. Groups over six require booking. The basic wine flight of four wines is free and to try eight wines will set you back $10. Wine tastings are free with bottle purchases.

Glen Ewin Estate

A South Australian icon, Glen Ewin Estate has been around more than 170 years and is still going strong. Weddings, Events, Corporate Functions, Tourism Location, Fig Orchard and a Bistro Cellar Door – it’s all there. Glen Ewin can accept small group walk-ins, however it’s best to book as they are pretty busy on weekends.

Golding Wines

Golding Wines is known for its gorgeous setting, and contemporary-meets-rustic tasting room. The tasting room, open from 11am, offerings flights that focus on different styles and varieties. There is also the opportunity for guests to choose wines from the Golding menu to create your own wine adventure.

Hahndorf Hill Winery

At Hahndorf Hill, you can unwind in their glass-enclosed balcony offering beautiful views of the vineyard and countryside. Hahndorf Hill offers a selection of wine flights of their speciality Austrian-variety wines and other cool-climate classics. Due to capacity restrictions, bookings are essential on weekends and public holidays.

Howard Vineyard

This premium Adelaide Hills winery has award-winning wines in a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. Tastings are set in their rustic stone barn and are a gentle nod to the vinyards history.

Murdoch Hill

Murdoch Hill’s small tasting room has a focus on purity and quality. They utilise winemaking techniques that give their wines fresh and vibrant results. Murdoch Hill offers seasonal guided wine flights that allow visitors to try a range of wines. Their tastings give insight into the Adelaide Hills and the philosophies behind Murdoch Hill. The Lane

The Lane’s modern tasting room offers personal tasted, and seated wine flights. Located just 3km from Hahndorf, The Lane’s tasting room is a vineyard escape. Bookings are essential.

Pike & Joyce

Pike & Joyce’s state-of-the-art tasting room overlooks the winery’s single estate vineyard, and the Onkaparinga Valley. Seated wine tasting are currently on offer, with bookings available for up to six people.

Prancing Pony Brewery

Home of the Supreme World Champion Beer, Prancing Pony Brewery offers a relaxed and casual restaurant brewery experience. While you enjoy your beer tasting paddle, you can see the brewery in action and chat with the brewers. There’s also live music on weekends.

McLaren Vale

Alpha Box & Dice

Alpha Box & Dice are embarking on an Alphabet of Wine, where they hope to create a different wine variety or style for every letter of the alphabet. Every wine is created to have its own unique identity and tell a story. Pairing the wines together in a tasting give more insight into why they do what they do than ever before. All their wines are small batch, minimal intervention and vegan friendly. Their winemakers work in the Cellar Door and are available to answer your questions and explain their winemaking philosophies.

Tastings: Seated tasting featuring 8 premium AB&D paired together in four themed brackets. Wines on tasting change monthly. Tastings are $10 per head. Substitution for premium non-alcoholic beverage tasting also available.

Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed Wines

The family owned winery has organically grown and certified vineyards. The cellar door is in an repurposed 1850s chaff shed and stables, where you can catch a glimpse of the Gulf St Vincent from the deck. Battle of Bosworth are not currently taking bookings. But, as the cellar door is quite small, calling ahead is recommended.

Coriole Vineyards

Coriole Vineyards is situated in the undulating hills of the McLaren Vale wine region. Shiraz is the major variety planted on the estate. Coriole has been a pioneer of Italian varieties since 1985, with the oldest Sangiovese and Fiano vineyards in Australia. Bookings are encouraged. Seated tastings are available at Coriole Homestead for $15 per person. Guests can decide between two wine selections, however all guests at the table must choose the same selection.

DogRidge

A small, intimate cellar door in McLaren Vale that’s also dog friendly. This off the beaten track winery has tables and chairs outside under the gum trees that are perfect for picnics with friends and family. Bookings of six or more are recommended.

Geddes Wines

Geddes Wines offer handmade wines from grape to glass, concentrating on grenache and red varieties. If your tour is organised with a local tour operator Geddes Wines offer their usual wine tastings, as well as barrel tastings and a tour of the winery.

Geoff Merrill Wines

Geoff Merrill Wines is a family-owned winery known for their aged fine wines. The cellar door has a Tuscan charm, nestled in four acres of vineyards and landscaped gardens.

Lazy Ballerina

Situated amongst five acres of lush garden, Lazy Ballerina is an ethereal cellar door. Their sweeping garden views are the perfect place to relax with a wine in hand. Bookings are essential for groups larger than six people.

Leconfield Wines

Leconfield Wine’s McLaren Vale Cellar Door offers a range of Tasting Experiences for you to discover the essence of Leconfield & Richard Hamilton Wines.

Tastings: Choose from one of their hosted Wine Flights or create your own Wine Flight by selecting 5 wines for $10 per person. Tastings fees are redeemable on bottle purchases per person for groups less than 6 people, non-redeemable of groups 6-8. For groups of up to four people the Tasting Fee is redeemable on one or more bottles purchased, per person. Each Wine Flight consists of five 20ml pours, making your Wine Flight the equivalent of one standard drink.

The Wine Flights can accommodate a maximum of 8 people and must be booked prior to your arrival. For groups larger than 8 people they have their wine platters and wines sales by the glass or bottle. Please contact Cellar Door for more information.

Wirra Wirra Vineyards

Brilliant Wines. Healthy Vines. Serious Fun. Choose from a selection of curated tasting flights of their McLaren Vale reds and Adelaide Hills whites or make your own selection. Zerella Wines

Within the Zerella Wines range there are Italian varietals dedicated to Jim’s Nonno (grandfather), McLaren Vale staples and some very special single vineyard varieties. Every tasting is personally hosted by Jim Zerella for a true and authentic tasting journey. Come learn about the brand and his family’s sacrifice for a better life. They also have a gorgeous deck with views across the vineyard, it’s an amazing space to savour a glass of wine.

Tastings: Join Jim Zerella, winemaker and owner of Halliday 5 red star rated Zerella Wines, for a relaxed and informal tasting. Jim will personally guide you through the 14 wines within his portfolio. On-line bookings are available and payment is required. Jim would love to meet you. They are open from Monday – Saturday. The tasting fee ($15/person) includes the full range of wines and a gift with any purchase at Cellar Door.

Edenmae Estate Wines

Edenmae has purposefully focussed on terroir and tradition, with a firm commitment to sustainable production. Their wines are crafted from 100% Eden Valley fruit and produced totally within the Barossa grounds. The cooler Eden Valley produces refreshing Riesling, spicy Shiraz, delicate Cabernet & robust Pinot. The Peter Lehmann Wines Cellar Door is situated on the banks of the Para River. The old stone building and surrounding gardens are a lovely setting to enjoy time with friends and family. Peter Lehmann Wines is regarded as one of the Barossa’s most picturesque destinations. Tastings are by appointment only.

Seabrook Wines

Seabrook tasting experience allows you to relax, learn and discover their full range of wines. Taste through their small-batch collection of wines on the deck while enjoying quintessential Barossa Valley views. Learn first-hand about the Seabrook story, their wines and vines. Seppeltsfield Road Distillers

Less than an hour from Adelaide’s CBD, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers’ Distillery & Tasting Room is a modern addition to the Barossa Valley’s wineries and cellar doors. The Barossa Tasting Room & Distillery is a great place to relax and unwind with gin tasting experiences, cocktails and platters. Seppeltsfield Road Distillers offer a $20 premium gin tasting experience that includes four gins, ice and tonic.

Torbreck Vintners

Torbreck vintners was created with the aim of building one of the finest wine estates in the world. Since 1994 Torbreck has been committed to creating exceptional Rhone style red and white wines reflecting the very best vineyards in the Barossa. Barley Stacks Wines

Barley Stacks Wines is the only award-winning winery and cellar door on the Yorke Peninsula. A short drive from Maitland will bring you to their large, rustic cellar door and function centre. Barley Stacks Wines are all made from grapes grown and produced on the property. Bookings for tastings aren’t needed unless you plan on coming in a large group. Barley Stacks Wines also offer pizzas and cheese platters.

Balnaves of Coonawarra

Balnaves of Coonawarra is a family-owned winery in the heart of Coonawarra. Guests can lounge on the deck or ponder out in the garden amongst the 900 rose bushes. During the winter you can sit by the open fire and sip on a glass of Balnaves wine. Bookings are essential as they have limited seating.

DiGiorgio Family Wines

When visiting the DiGiorgio Family wines Cellar Door you will have the opportunity to sample sparkling, white, a rose, red and dessert wines from their extensive portfolio, along with regional produce. You can also take in the newly developed landscaped garden and lawn area while enjoying a customised “Pick your own Produce Platter” with a glass of wine. The kids can amuse themselves with activities from the toy box, totem tennis, bocce, a scavenger hunt or even do a “Kids Tasting” before enjoying their very own “Snack Pack”. See for yourself the famous Terra Rossa soil in their soil pit, marvel at the gnarly 100 year old vines, walk among their cork tree “forest” and learn how wine corks are made. Hollick Estates is a boutique winery located on the Terra Rossa soils of the Coonawarra. Renowned for their extensive range of premium table wines, including several alternative varietals. Katnook Estate

A visit to Katnook Estate will give you more than a tasting through delicious wines – it’s also a journey through a century of winemaking history. Katnook is the oldest existing winery in the region and John Riddoch’s beautiful historic buildings have been restored and converted into our Cellar Door. Visit and enjoy a free personalised tasting of Katnook’s award winning wines and sample a delicious selection of cheese and local produce.

Parker Coonawarra Estate

John and Faye Parker established Parker Coonawarra Estate in 1985 after a career-long interest in the region. The winery champions Cabernet Sauvignon from the celebrated Terra Rossa soils of the Coonawarra region. The beautiful estate sits tall amongst the renowned Abby vineyard. Zema Estate

Zema Estate is a true Coonawarra family winery, forged in Australia but based on the undeniable passions and traditions of its Italian heritage. Kangaroo Island Spirits

Clare Valley Wine, Food and Tourism Centre

The Clare Valley Wine, Food and Tourism Centre is a showcase of all things locally Clare Valley. It’s the perfect destination to start your Clare Valley trip, collect your maps, brochures, browse our local produce, art and wine (all sold at cellar door prices), and enjoy a coffee or wine tasting/glass whilst you go through your plans.

Tastings: Free tastings of two local wines (one white, one red), changing each week. Usually these are wines without their own cellar door, or those that haven’t reopened + new releases. No bookings are required.

Jeanneret Wines

Jeanneret Wines is nestled in an idyllic location, surrounded by trees and nature. The perfect place to relax and enjoy not only the magnificent wines but also the beautiful Skilly Valley.

Knappstein Wines

Steeped in history and synonymous with the Clare Valley in South Australia, the Knappstein is located in the heritage listed Enterprise building. Producing wines with personality, they showcase varieties the region is famous for. They are proud to be an important part of the well-known wine making history in the Clare Valley. Having some of the best vineyards in the region, they are dedicated to a ‘distinguished vineyards’ philosophy.

A small vineyard that consistently produces high quality wine. Awarded Best Small Producer and the Mick Knappstein Trophy for Best Current Vintage Riesling at the 2019 Clare Valley Wine Show. Small and friendly cellar door.

Sussex Squire Wines

Sussex Squire Wines is a small family owned and award winning 5 Star Halliday Rated winery which only sells through cellar door. Their focus is dry grown reds and usually they have 8-10 reds on tasting at their cellar door.

Family Range Tasting Experience $15 per person (includes Patritti’s four top tier single vineyard wines). Following the tasting of the four single vineyard reds, the experience will conclude with a choice of one of their rare fortified wines, each with a minimum of 15 years of maturation before bottling. A true taste of Patritti history. The experience is a sit down 45-minute tasting for $15 per person, with all charges redeemable on wine purchase following the tasting.

Limestone Coast

Cape Jaffa Wines

Visit the rustic cellar door for seated tastings of Cape Jaffa Wines and learn how their wines are made differently from one of the friendly and knowledgeable staff members. Relax and enjoy a food platter on a picnic blanket on the lawn, be seated inside or outside under their beautiful covered courtyard overlooking rolling hills covered in vines. Find a spot on the landing with a birds-eye view of the barrel hall. Wander outside and take a stroll through the biodynamic veggie patch to see what’s in season.

Tastings: Seated tastings are always on offer (even outside of COVID restrictions). They offer four complimentary tastes of the wines of your choosing. You can also enjoy a complimentary tasting of the four beers they have in Loophole Brewing Co’s core range. Bookings not essential but helpful in securing a spot during times of limited capacity. Ralph Fowler Wines

Ralph Fowler Wines is an Australian owned and operated, family run business. Ralph’s 50 years of wine making experience plus the dedication and passion of hand-picking, small batch and basket pressing creates our unique winemaking style. The wines have varietal expression and are reflective of the terroir not only of the region but of the vineyard. Ralph Fowler Wines Shiraz and Merlot are always highly sought after, and our Cellar Door is open 7 days per week.

Woodsoak Wines

Woodsoak Wines is a family owned and operated Cellar Door in the heart of the stunning coastal town of Robe – with a Bollywood twist. Each day they wheel out their Indian bar and offer free tastings of their range of 10 wines. Relax and watch the hive of activity of Robe with a glass of wine or or a bottle with friends and indulge in their signature samosa plate, or BYO fish ‘n chips. Enjoy a game of chess or checkers with the kids or get competitive with a game of giant jenga with mates. There’s something for everyone!
