Your Say Group has officially launched Observatory 23, a lavish new event offering on Adelaide’s city fringe. Built in 1958, the building has a long and proud tradition of hosting events, from gala dinners to weddings, conferences and much more. Formerly known as The Observatory before becoming The Ellington in 2014, the building’s new caretakers have revitalised the grand, white, art deco destination which sits prominently near the corner of North Terrace and Hackney Road. 23 Hackney Road in fact (hence the name).
The grand opening of the venue was held last week, and Adam Vonthethoff, Managing Director of the Your Say Group, greeted a who’s who of the SA events industry to celebrate.
“It is just fantastic to be able to grow our family business with the acquisition of Observatory 23,” says Adam. “We are continuing to look for growth opportunities that complement our other assets, Aurora Skydeck, The Griffins Hotel and our external catering arm.”
“We also want to support the people that have supported us, and continue to support the community. So, we are proud to announce that we are offering 100 event sponsorship packages worth up to $5,000 each for SA not-for-profit and community-based organisations,” he says.
“We’ve crafted a suite of sponsorship benefits that will help them with keeping budgets in line, while still maximising fund-raising outcomes – whether it is complimentary beverages, cash rebates, door prizes, free room hire or assistance with fundraising, we want to do our bit to assist while times are tough.”
The opening event featured discussions from a panel of speakers including Ian Whitworth, Glam Adelaide’s Kelly Noble, and Cam and Peter Ballard from Hall’s Soft Drinks, discussing the SA business ecosystem with a room of 180 guests.

The event featured an impressive three course luncheon from Executive Chef Luke Brabin, showcasing some of SA’s best local produce, and a range of SA based beverages, with impressive audiovisual provided by Scene Change Adelaide.
Luke Brabin, spoke about the event capabilities offered by the venue. “Observatory 23 fits right into our aim to be a major event provider in Adelaide and SA. We’re looking forward to working with clients hosting many types of event – anything from a wedding to corporate luncheons like today. The size of the kitchen means we can also cater offsite, at scale.”
With connections to prominent event service providers such as Scene Change Adelaide, the venue promises high-quality event experiences. This is not just limited to the audiovisual aspects but extends to every detail necessary to create a memorable event for all parties involved, including clients and their guests.
Observatory 23 is poised to become a key player in Adelaide’s event hosting landscape, especially with its strategic initiatives directed towards supporting community engagement and non-profit activities. This venue not only aims to host events but to also foster a supportive environment for those in need – proving to be a valuable addition to the Your Say Group’s family of event services.
