You’ve never met a coffee like Patio Coffee Roasters’ new carousel seasonal blend

Patio Coffee Roasters are hosting their first cupping event of the year in March, and introducing their brand new autumn blend.

Patio Coffee Roasters is kicking off autumn with the launch of its latest Carousel seasonal blend, and their first cupping event of the year. On March 12, Colombian importer Harvest Town Coffee and Brazilian importer Southland Coffee Merchants will join the Patio team at their home base on Richmond Road.

If you’re wondering what a cupping event involves, just think of it as the wine tasting of the coffee world, it’s a way to taste and evaluate all the flavours on offer.

“It’s kind of like meeting the coffee for the first time,” Georgina Lumb from Patio Coffee Roasters said.

Each season these coffee experts launch a different blend, and this one is made to work you into winter with a slow autumn style palette.

“The last few seasons were very fruit-driven, for example, summer was passionfruit meringue and dark chocolate. Our autumn release is more walnut, dried apricot and cinnamon.”

Think of it as a warming, slightly spiced flavours which pair perfectly with the upcoming cool weather we’re about to transition into. No rushing you into winer, just a slow introduction.

To form the new flavour, the Patio team go over the process together, tasting singular components not just the whole blend. Georgina explains it as an interview with the coffee, “What is it telling us? What does it want to do?”

“That’s how we decide how to roast it and how to build the blend.”

Designed as an immersive coffee experience, the evening highlights not just flavour, but the story behind each bean.

If you’re new to the coffee scene it’s a perfect place to learn where it comes from, as it “doesn’t just start in the bag on the shelf.”

“There’s growing, harvesting, processing, importing, and quality control,” Georgina said. For those more experienced though, it’s a chance to pick up more nuance and technical details.

Alongside the launch, Patio has also introduced a new monthly Roastery Tour and Tasting. It’s a fully guided experience featuring espresso, milk-based and filter tastings, plus a behind-the-scenes look at how your daily ritual actually comes to life.
