Zoos SA are happy to announce that both Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park have today reopened their gates after the statewide lockdown.
In addition, Light Creatures, Illuminate Adelaide’s popular event held at Adelaide Zoo that hit pause due to lockdown, will be restarting tonight with extended dates until 8 August.
Zoos SA are thrilled to reopen their gates after feeling the heavy impact of the lockdown. On this, Elaine Bensted, Chief Executive of Zoos SA said: “We’re ecstatic to welcome back our loyal members and visitors and ask that they book in advance. The impacts of no visitors to us a NGO conservation charity are huge, especially after the previous two closures.”
As predominately open-air sites, visitors are encouraged to feel comfortable and safe when visiting. Regarding COVID safe management Bensted says they operate a COVID manangement plan site and will continue to follow guidelines.
“It was really unfortunate that we had to cancel a few sessions prior to the lockdown due to strong winds and then for lockdown itself. We can’t wait to continue with this spectacular lantern and interactive light show and allow people to see nature in a new light,” says Elaine.
Light creatures has seen impressive attendance from South Australian’s who have soaked up the surreal atmosphere of seeing the zoo in a unique light.
Visitors can expect to see enormous animatronic giant pandas roll playfully across the Central Lawns, a gigantic dreamtime skink, a Giraffe Arch and an Underwater Wonderland wriggling with jellyfish and swaying with vivid, and colour-changing coral.
