Zoos SA to continue vaccination mandates

Zoos SA has released a statement today announcing they will continue to mandate vaccination for all staff, volunteers, members and visitors.

Zoos SA has released a statement requiring vaccinations for all patrons aged 12 and over.

“Some of you will remember that in December 2021, Zoos SA implemented a COVID vaccine mandate for all staff, volunteers, members and visitors to our sites,” Zoos SA announced in the statement.

“After much consideration and the taking into account the valued opinions of our community, we have decided to continue to implement this mandate until further notice including those aged 12 and over. All future vaccination decisions will be aligned to ATAGI recommendations.

“With the ongoing likelihood of infection from COVID-19 in our community, we still need to minimise the risk to all while maximising the ability to offer all a safe space. For us, this also includes protecting the species at our sites.

“Vaccination draws much passionate commentary. We would like to emphasise that we recognise that this is a hard time for *everyone*. No matter where you stand in regard to vaccines, please remember that we as an organisation are doing our best and doing what we think and feel is right for the welfare of all we care for in the zoo’s community. We are in a situation where additional to humans we must think of the species, many of them vulnerable that we care for.

“Zoos around the globe have lost species to COVID, and with a vaccination for susceptible animals currently unavailable in Australia it’s a risk we cannot take.

“If you have any queries, please direct them to www.zooss.com.au/contact-us and a member of our visitor services team will be in contact.

“As always, thank you for your support now and always. We’d love to see you soon.”
