Adelaide weather forecast for Thursday October 15 and the days ahead

Happy Thursday! Here’s the weather for October 15th and a look at what’s to come this week.

Adelaide is heading into a mostly settled spring stretch, with sunshine, mild days and a gradual warm-up across the next week, while parts of regional South Australia face a much more unsettled outlook with showers and possible severe thunderstorms in the west.

For Adelaide, Thursday stays mostly sunny with a top of 22 degrees, making for a crisp but pleasant day around the city after a cool start. Easterly winds will ease around the middle of the day before picking up again later tonight. Friday brings a little more cloud, but it still looks dry and comfortable, with temperatures lifting to 25 degrees after a low of 13.

The warming trend continues into the weekend. Saturday is forecast to be partly cloudy with a top of 27 degrees, while Sunday looks brighter again and warmer, reaching 29 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Northeasterly winds will become more noticeable on Sunday morning, but overall it’s shaping up as a good weekend for getting outdoors, especially with rain chances staying very low.

Early next week, Adelaide keeps that spring warmth going. Monday should start mostly sunny before cloud builds later in the day, with just a slight chance of a shower and a top of 29 degrees. By Tuesday, conditions turn a little more changeable. A shower or two is expected, with a medium chance of rain and the possibility of a thunderstorm as temperatures ease slightly to 28 degrees. That more unsettled feel should linger into Wednesday, although only a slight chance of a shower is forecast, with partly cloudy skies and another top of 28 degrees.

For those heading to the coast, Adelaide Metropolitan Waters are also looking fairly calm through to Sunday. Seas are expected to stay below 1 metre, with light winds for much of Friday and Saturday, and mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions. Northeasterly winds will freshen a little on Sunday, but boating conditions generally remain manageable across the local waters.

Across regional South Australia, the weather story is more varied. The far west is the main focus, with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing from Thursday afternoon and evening, and some of those storms may become severe with damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall. On Friday, showers and thunderstorms continue in the west before contracting to the far north during the afternoon and clearing in the evening. By Saturday, storm chances ease back but remain possible in the far northwest, while a few showers may also develop near the eastern border. Sunday then sees showers and thunderstorms developing again in the west later in the day.

Temperatures across the state will sit near average to above average in many districts, though the northeast is expected to stay cooler than elsewhere at times. Rainfall totals to the end of Sunday are expected to remain low through much of the state, with less than 2 mm possible in many areas, but heavier local falls are possible in the north and west. The Bureau says parts of the North West Pastoral could see 2 to 10 mm, with isolated falls of 20 to 40 mm possible where storms become more intense. There is also possible early morning patchy frost about the southeast on Thursday.
